Where in Scotland for a week in August?

Hi

I am thinking about going to Scotland for a week in August but don't know where! Would like good walks, some cycling and something fun for the teenager.

Could anyone give me any recommendations please as everywhere looks beautiful!

I was thinking perhaps we could stay in Edinburgh for a couple of nights then go somewhere for 5 nights. Or the other way around. And would people want tourists back?

Thanks

Watching with interest don’t live in Scotland but not too far away was thinking it might be a safer better than the South Coast in terms of the virus. Lots of lovely places to go in Scotland depends how far up you want to go.

Fife, St Andrews, Kirkcudbright, Skye, Isle of Arran and lots of beautiful beaches much further up but we haven’t visited those.

We've just booked Ayrshire for a week so following this for ideas.

Can thoroughly recommend Forrest Holidays at Strathyre- mind you they might be sold out already. Fabulous location- nice cycle ride into Callander and within driving range of a number of historic attractions.

Thank you Rookiemere. I'll take a look!

Scottish schools go back on 12Th Aug so second half of the month will be quieter, and possibly cheaper.

Beautiful suggestions upthread but beware the midges OP, I think August is pretty much the worst time for them!

North west for the best beaches . Ardnamurchan Arisaig etc. But yes the midgies are not to be underestimated. You might struggle to find accommodation until the Scottish schools go back

It's hard to recommend anywhere specifically as there are so many beautiful places. Aviemore might be a good shout as there are a lot of outdoor activities there, though I've no idea what will be available given Covid restrictions. Another thing to consider would be to hire a campervan or motorhome and tour for the week.

I second Aviemore. Just back from there and lots has opened up since 15th. Watersports on Loch Morlich, bike hire, most of the shops and hotels and more than half the restaurants/pubs. Had a wonderful time. Mask wearing, cleaning and social distancing being well observed. And so many forest and hill walks that you can be completely isolated if you prefer.
