Colchester recommendations please

Have named changed as don't want my best friend finding out!

We are going to Colchester for a weekend - we hardly ever get to see each other so really want it to be special.

Can you recommend the best afternoon tea?
Best hotel (quite central)
Best Chinese?
Best things to do?

Undoubtedly the castle and check out what’s on at the Mercury theatre and Firstsite. Browse round Fenwick which is a lovely department store.
The best afternoon teas are Tymperleys and Greyfriars.
For hotels, then it’s probably North Hill hotel.
If you’ll have a car, then I recommend the Beth Chatto gardens.
