Where are you based?
Assuming city centre:
Cardiff Castle
National museum of Wales (not open mondays though)
A wander round the Victorian arcades and cardiff indoor market (there's an upstairs you may miss). Both have lots of lovely coffee shops and relaxed places to eat. Also independent shops like Spillers, oldest record shop in UK.
Bute park is lovely if you have a nice day, nice tea rooms (Pettigrew) at south entrance. Also you could catch the aqua bus to cardiff bay, lovely again for wander and lots of restaurants. Most weekends they have things going on, check out millenium centre for shows and sometimes free family events. Also theres a new cinema open in the bay - Everyman, sofas and food delivered to you. If you have LOs too theres Techniquest.
Not sure on Indian restaurants in city as think the best ones are slightly more out of town. There are two in Canton where I live - chai street and purple poppadom which are excellent, about a 15 min walk from city centre, or 5 min journey on no 17or 18 bus which are v frequent to/from town.
Also slightly further out but accessible by bus is St Fagans museum, Llandaff with the cathedral, and Roath with lovely places to eat and Roath Park lake.

The Potted Pig is amazing, I haven't been for a few years but it's in a cellar and serves great food that is super good value, I think we paid not much over £100 for three courses and wine.

It's the only places DH hasn't offered me a bite of his pudding. It was too good to share!

If you don’t want to go to Canton for a curry, you could try the Coconut Tree on Mill Lane. It’s Sri Lankan street food and delicious.

BeaLola · 15/02/2020 12:51

Thank you - pls keep suggestions coming - DH also likes a good steak Smile. My fave is Thai . Had seen Coconut place advertised but wondering if too spicy for me ? I'm the person who only has korma or pasanda or makhani in an Indian whilst DH can go spicier.

Am so looking forward to it as I'll be just me and DH In daytime. Just hope weather doesn't delay us getting there

Purple Poppadom for curry!

tempnamechange98765 · 15/02/2020 13:02

Mowgli's in the city centre does lovely street food type curry, bit different to your traditional but they have mild things on the menu too. And the atmosphere/decor is lovely!

DragonMamma · 15/02/2020 13:33

Coconut Tree isn’t particularly spicy unless you want it to be. I usually have a milder curry and it was all fantastic. If you go make sure you have the cheesy columbos, the pineapple curry and a hopper.

Really want one now!

Ponnuswamy on city rd is great for curry, about 20-30 minute walk from castle. Cheap and good food.
The museum is lovely and free.
Park is great, there's a cute boat ride to Cardiff Bay you can do for a fiver.
I'm not suggesting you're poor though :)
