Day camping ?

I'm trying to find some places that we can go to and pitch up with the car spend the day there with enough for the kids to do. Doesn't have to be a camp site. I remember a few years ago we went to a place in North Yorkshire possibly near Ripon. It was by a small stream you could park up for the day and BBQ . Anyone know of something similar in the north ?

Llyn Gwynant in Snowdonia has a £5 charge to park, use toilets etc. Beautiful lake, you can BBQ and with cheap kayak hire too. You can get away with not paying but I would feel a tightarse for that as a fiver is hardly bankbreaking.

I think you can do similar at Shell Island, few miles north of Barmouth, too.

If you're near Shropshire, Cardingmill Valley is lovely for children. Park by the streams and build weirs and dams or go further up and walk to the waterfall and trout pools, or go further again if you fancy a longer walk to the top of the Long Mynd. It's NT so free parking for members and there's a cafe.

Whereabouts are you? There are loads of lovely places near us.

You can park on the beach at black rock sands in north Wales and take all your own stuff with you

We are in Yorkshire , so something within an hour or 2 would be great.

Hamsterley Forest - the main car park is at the visitor centre but there is additional parking in grass car parks along Forest Drive.It’s £6 for the day.
