who have offered us a 1 or 2 night break at one of their hotels. but which one do we choose? we are based in hertfordshire.

i am thinking about an xmas break for all of us. has anyone been to one, and can give us any extra information?

feels weird being able to travel more than one hour from harefield after all this time

Fantastic! We've only been to Woolley Grange, but it's lovely there.

Oh how nice of them, that's lovely to hear.

We went to Fowey and it was a long way to go from Bristol, Wolley Grange not too far from you?

Make sure they are including Dinner, B and B and high tea for the kids as well!

Wow, lucky you, they are all lovely.

Fowey is fantastic with lovely big rooms and fireplaces, and views of the sea. But would be a long journey for you. Great warm pool.

Woolley Grange is cosy, near to Bath.

Moonfleet is slightly tired, and I much preferred the other 2.

So, if I was you, bearing in mind the distance and it's a short break I would go for Woolley. The childcare/playroom is really good. Delicious food. Near to Bath and Wookey Hole caves, but lovely just to stay in and relax. I remember we arrived at Woolley and had huge hot chocs next to the fire! We were relaxed in 10 mins.

All the hotels, are very relaxed, casual and easy going. Not posh, smart and silent! Some have a resident friendly dog, big sofas, toys available, early suppers. You can choose what type of pillow/bedding you want! (if anyone allergic to feather etc).

LVoC - you will have a fab time.
we went to Wooley Grange last november time ..mumsnet comp winners ...it was lovely...the food is fantastic. we went into bath and the christmas markets were on, also went to look round the baths.

it was very luxurious but not posh in a formal kind of way. no dress code - whatever goes. there was one family there -very sloney types, whosse kids looked liked they hadn't had a wash or hairbrush all weekend. lol.

Misdee-Ickworth is the nearest-about an hours drive.Lovely house and grounds,great poll and if they are paying,no need to worry about the expense.
Local activities limited but hotel very warm and welcoming,great creche etc and lovely food.Great walks too-sheep deer,free cycles etc.
Wouldn't spend my own money there having been before but I reckon they would make a Chistmas break very magical and you would have a fab time not too far from home.

i'm looking at ickworth now. they all look good. but just dont want to be driving for hours for just 2nights IYSWIM.

We had a wonderful time at Ickworth in April for our honeymoon, with children obviously I think the key to having the best time there is to go in the holidays. We had the pick of the bikes to have picnics on the estate and the pool was always empty.

I can particularly recommend having a Rocky Road in the spa and then gin and tonic on the terrace before collecting the children from the club.

i told peter we are booking sitters so i can get hideously drunk, he cant, so i will drink for both of us. two glasses and i'm a goner.

LVoC fab have a lovely time, maybe post in weekend breaks to get some more replies?
