Any recommendations on what to do that does not include anything Beatles related?

It depends on what you're into. I would look at what's on at the Everyman and Playhouse. Have a drink at the Philharmonic pub. I like the Walker art gallery and the Maritime Museum. Have a meal at the Baltic Market.

Albert dock is interesting and has a Tate modern too.

Any kids? Having been all over the place we feel Liverpool is one of the best City destinations
Albert Dock, Museums are good, Gracie Market can be fantastic one week poor the next.

Williamson Tunnels. Very unusual there is some politics between the two groups, we went with the friends of Williamson Tunnels who are a great bunch of people, don't know about the others

Trip to Southport.

Use it as a base for North Wales / Lakes? Loads of places within a one or two hour drive

Lark lane a short drive out of the City is good for food and Sefton Park, but I would stay in the City and go the the Baltic market or Bold Street, La Parilla is fantastic and good value, Crust, leaf all good.
Two Cathedrals and plenty of unusual Churches if you want to see them.
Underground control room from the War? Used in a few films

Anthony Gormley's Another Place on Crosby Beach is amazing and haunting. Short drive outside the city, pretty sure there's a bus too.

Funf · 05/01/2020 18:03

Well just got back, went to Moose Hope Street Liverpool for breakfast as they let the dog in too, then went to Llangollen to climb a hill with castle on top.

Thank you for your suggestions. We'll have a look together this evening.
No kids - just a short break for DH and I.

Definitely take the train to see the Anthony Gormley statues!

Funf · 06/01/2020 09:45

Check the tide before you go!

Toddlerteaplease · 06/01/2020 10:11

Moose is my favourite place in Liverpool. The pancakes are fantastic!
Both cathedrals are worth visiting
The museum's are all free.
If it's a clear day, go up the tower of the Anglican cathedral or St Johns Beacon. You can see for miles.
The submarine museum just across the river is good and you can go on the ferry.
Freshfields at Formby is Nice.
Speke Hall

I absolutely love Liverpool and wish I could move there!

Toddlerteaplease · 06/01/2020 10:12

@Funf I've done that one, we got soaked!!

Funf · 06/01/2020 10:31

When you start to look properly Liverpool and the surrounding area has a lot to offer a weekend is too short, but plan well then return

Yes we live about 20 minutes drive away from Liverpool, its a good location as Beaches, Wales and the Lakes are all within 90 minutes drive, having been to much of Europe its still our favourite city, its so full of tourists these days they love it.
This Mexican on Bold street just down from the Bombed out church is excellent its usually number 1 on trip advisor

The tour of the Mersey tunnel is good if you are a bit geeky and you can also go on a tour of the old dock.
Gelato UK on lark lane do fab ice cream, which you can eat while walking round Sefton park.
