Really irritated by hosts charging EXTORTIONATE cleaning fees!

Here's our price breakdown from a recent trip..,

£90.50 x 2 nights: £181.00
Cleaning fee: £132.00
Service fee £48.46

Is it me or is that a bit steep?! Hmm

Should I post this in AIBU?

It would have been clear when you booked it what all the charges were, if you didn't like it you shouldn't have booked it

So YABU

I clean an air B&B and only get £9 an hour!!
Fee def doesn't got to the cleaner ime!!

VirtualHamster · 15/10/2019 20:45

I've never seen a cleaning fee anywhere near that amount. But you have all the fees set out before booking so no grounds for complaint.

JollyAndBright · 15/10/2019 22:55

You can see what they charge in fees clearly on the listing so you knew the cost before you booked.

Yes it’s ridiculous, but I imagine the ‘cleaning fee’ isn’t taken into account when Airbnb are working out their fee deductions so maybe the host has lowered the price per night and upped the ‘cleaning fee’ as a way to keep the price competitive but save a bit of money on fees.

It’s something I’ve noticed happening on there a few times.

I just think it's actually quite dishonest to quote a price for a house then charge almost the same again for the cleaning.

My cleaner is £12 ph - it would not have taken her 11HOURS to clean that house!

Obvs I realise that I saw the fees and didn't have to pay them. I was commenting on the general practices of hosts on air b&b.

Why question was whether or not people think the cleaning fees on air b&b are a bit steep 🤷‍♀️

Yeah it's a bit steep, taking the piss imo (ex holiday let manager).

It's not the case, the cleaning fee is included for AirBnB's calculations so it's not that. It's more likely to be about discouraging short stays

I agree with you! Often it makes more sense to book a hotel now as air b and bs cost the same
