Not sure if there is a thread already like this but..

Can anyone recommend any places to go away for a long weekend in December?

We are a family of 4 with a young baby and would like to do something Christmassy whilst there. We live in the west midlands and don't mind travelling a distance but don't drive so would have to be easily accessible by public transport and also have a fair amount to do whilst there even if just little things e.g. going into town.

I've never booked any kind of holiday before so I've tried google but got nowhere with it 😂 thanks for any recommendations in advance!

York is lovely at Christmas. Actually, it’s lovely all year round.

Another vote for York and by public transport from there you could visit Castle Howard which is magical at Christmas. Perhaps book afternoon tea with Santa there.
York is actually quite small and not car friendly so ideal for non drivers.
If shopping is your thing the Mcarthur Glen outlet is easily reached by the park and ride bus.
Or if you are lucky with the weather Scarborough is about an hour away by train, enjoy the beach in your wellies.

Cornwall is really lovely around Christmas time. You have the lights at Mousehole and Looe plus lots of places have lantern parades which is great fun with the kids.
