Southampton weekend

We are going to stay in Southampton for two nights and plan to visit Peppa pig world on one of the days with our toddler and baby. Is there anything else that might be nice to see in Southampton or even a nice beach nearby? Thank you.

No nice beaches really but new forest has some shingle beaches.

Go to town quay and take a trip on the ferry to Hythe.

Beaulieu motor museum Is nice.

Lymington is a nice town

Anywhere in new forest.

For nice areas with a beach (not sandy and I say beach lightly!)
Look at Lepe country park.

For sandy beaches head towards Bournemouth and Poole. Be aware the sandbanks ferry is out of action though.

Other country parks which are near to PP of that's where you're staying are Manor farm and Queen Victoria.

If it's bad weather there's Romsey rapids nearby too.

Marwell zoo!

moreismore · 17/08/2019 19:30

Longdown farm is brilliant! About 20mins drive from Highfield.

moreismore · 17/08/2019 19:30

Romsey rapids is very very busy in hols so book online if you do head there.

moreismore · 17/08/2019 19:33

Moors Valley is a bit of a drive but really good massive sandy play area and a good cafe. Would be on the way to Bournemouth if you do head to the beach. I’d recommend boscombe pier/southbourne beach over Bournemouth itself.

Check out if Groupon are still doing cream teas at The Place hotel, op.

If you don't want to travel too far Lakeside country park is near. It's near Southampton Parkway and has a little steam train and a small playground halfway round the train circuit.

I haven't been for ages but Southampton Common by Highfield used to have a great paddling pool for little ones and a playground. It was much easier than going to a beach as they couldn't go too far and they didn't get sand everywhere!

Grumpbum123 · 17/08/2019 19:50

Avoid the rapids unless you want to bathe in antiseptic afterwards
I’d head to butte get the ferry to Southampton see the cruise liners and wander around hythe or go to lepe or Balmer lawn in the new forest

MadeinBelfast · 17/08/2019 19:53

Just checked and the common has changed a bit but it seems to have a play area at least.

youarenotkiddingme · 17/08/2019 19:58

Agree lakeside is fab.

Skyejuly · 17/08/2019 21:36

Salisbury is only 20min away too. Closer than lepe :-)

JurassicShay · 17/08/2019 22:04

Take a ferry to Hythe, potter around & have lunch in bebe's cafe.
Take the bus to lepe beach and walk up the right side of beach past the lighthouse & you will find the sand! Then head up to the park & through the sensory garden.

Spainintherain · 17/08/2019 22:05

Thanks everyone!
