Break coming up soon near Kelso. Any tips on outdoorsy activities for teens, and decent eating places appreciated.

Where are you staying OP? I know the area well. Wink

Go ape glentress is excellent, superb zip lines. Good biking as well if into that.

Other direction, kimmerston stables good and do beach rides.

Ryze near Edinburgh trampoline indoor place.

Festival on in Edinburgh. Train from tweed bank, fifty minutes right into centre loads to do.

Alnwick castle and gardens is fab.

Schools go back next week so lots winding down locally. There is a what's on guide you will be able to get in tourist info.

Food wise in Kelso itself? Cobbles nice, contended vine lovely. Lemon and thyme new but heard good reports. Lunch time cafe u excellent.

If you venture to Alnwick, Milan in wooler worth a stop on way home.

If you give me more info on likes etc I can point you in right direction.

Thanks for the heads up.
Eildon Hills sound interesting.Good walk without being too demanding? What do you think?
Anywhere hiring canoes?
Any decent country pubs?
Is Lindisfarne worth a visit?

Yeah eildon a a good walk and Melrose worth a browse after.

I don't think there is canoe hire, used to be st Mary's loch at Selkirk.

Yeah lindisfarne nice, watch tides obviously. Entire coast line lovely really. Beadnell good for a beach walk.

Loads of good pubs. What do you like? Border yetholm fab after a walk and good pub food.

The plough liliesleaf.

Ford and etal railway has the black bull at stop, quite fancy now.

How old are teens?

Jedburgh jail quite interesting. Then harestanes which is a sort of big play park, like my fourteen year old nephew enjoys, and good walks and nice cafe. Also garden centre opposite it does great food. As does border meringues in jed. That's a hidden gem. Opposite jet garage, looks like an industrial estate. Wonderful cakes and lunches.

That's great. Really appreciate the tips.
Dss are 15/13. Food after fresh air always seems to be productive combination.
Home cooking/gastropubby type works better for us than pie and pint/sky sports.Decent g'n't for me (or IPA for dh depending on who's driving).
Looking forward despite the weather forecast!

Pubs I've listed more country than sport.

Fox lakes Dunbar popular here with teens. Head to Berwick and up a1. Not that far. Then stop somewhere on coast on way back for food.

Weather meant to be much better than we have been getting. If in area 26th August wooler show is on. Last biggish agricultural show. It's a nice day.

One last thought, 25th August mass pipe band day floors castle Kelso, plus horses and carriages. Floors is very expensive usually but worth it on this day. Sort of mini Edinburgh tattoo.
