Long weekend Manchester area

Can anyone recommend a ruralish area of the M1 Manchester area to stay. A pretty village with a pub and shop would be ideal.

We are travelling from South, others coming from North so off the M1 would be ideal.

Didsbury in south Manchester is beautiful! Lovely village with lots of great pubs and beautiful parks!

Take a look at last drop Village

Do you mean the M6, the M1 is nowhere near Manchester, and Didsbury is not a lovely rural village. Knutsford is very pretty, it’s a small town though.

Where are you coming off the M1? Are you crossing over to join the M6? Or up to Leeds and across on the M62? Or crossing the Snake Pass from Sheffield? Because that'll decide which bit of Manchester you come to first. If your coming from the South then there are some pretty villages in North Cheshire or South Manchester. And the same in the North. So if you know which way you're coming it could save a bit of driving.

How close to Manchester do you need to be? There are some lovely villages and small towns in Cheshire e.g. Knutsford, Tarporley, Styal

Check out Uppermill or Greenfield in Saddleworth

Lymm is gorgeous, we stayed at Lymm boutique rooms, absolutely lovely and right in the centre.
Lots of pubs and good restaurants.

But Manchester is the other side of the Pennines from the M1.

Alderley Edge

Doh! When I said M1 - I meant M6!

Doesn’t have to be close to Manchester, somewhere in area of M6 would be ideal.

We are travelling up from Oxfordshire and others down from Carlisle so somewhere probably a bit south of Manchester to stay.

It's not Manchester but Nantwich is lovely and not a million miles off J16.

Tattenhall area. If you have kids you can go to ice cream farm. Day out in Chester. Walk up Bickerton Hill, or Beeston Castle. Very pretty too.

Thanks / will check out those areas!

After a 10hr drive Shock back from Carlisle on Friday we are absolutely meeting 1/2 way next time!
