Ideas for one in Rhyl

As my username suggests, I'm not looking for the best place for sunbathing.

What's to do for a single person by the Welsh seaside?

Sorry, forgot to mention, I can't drive.

Are you going there on holiday, or just for a day? There isn't much worth stopping in Rhyl for. Get a bus along the coast to Llandudno and Rhos on Sea.

LuckyLou7 · 17/07/2019 18:18

Can you cycle? The North Wales coastal path is beautiful. You can hire a bike and go up the coast to Prestatyn and Talacre, or down the coast to Abergele, Pensarn or further afield if you have the energy. There are regular buses between Rhyl and Conway and Llandudno, for sightseeing. The seafront is Rhyl has recently been regenerated (is that the right word?) and The Mayquay pub by the harbour, opposite Marine Lake, does lovely food.

Have a good holiday.

Ginnymweasley · 17/07/2019 18:20

In rhyl? Not much tbh. There is the sea life centre place. How long are you there for? You can get the bus to llandudno for a better day out tbh. Lots of nice cafes and shopping. There is the pier, gardens, great orme. I live near llandudno so if you want any tips let me know.

Gingernaut · 17/07/2019 18:35

Travelling down tomorrow, seeing Rhod Gilbert, spending another day and then travelling back on Saturday.

So Friday, I'm at a loose end.

Llandudno sounds OK.

Llandudno is nice, get the no.12 bus from Rhyl bus station, it's £5.50 for a day ticket. You can walk along the seafront, take a boat trip, go on the pier, ride the cable cars or tram to the summit of the Great Orme, have coffee and a Welsh cake at the Rest and Be Thankful cafe, watch the Kashmiri goats frolicking in the sun, and enjoy the views.

iklboo · 17/07/2019 18:46

Llandudno definitely worth a visit.

Gingernaut · 17/07/2019 18:49

Thank you.

I have arrived.

My en-suite is the twin room closest to the toilet and shower room, but not to worry the rest of the guests are builders. Hmm

It looks like a grim Wolverhampton-On-Sea.

Oh and Wellington is Smackhead Central.

I thought that was Walsall, but never mind.

Oh dear OP. Where are you staying? Hopefully you have a good time tonight and then you can escape to llandudno tomorrow. Nice weather today at least I suppose.

Gingernaut · 18/07/2019 17:00

Rain with possible thunderstorms tomorrow.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You'll be fine, there are plenty enough cafés in Llandudno to dodge the downpours. Also there's a hop-on/off bus tour you can take which allows you to get off at several stops including Conwy for a look at the castle etc - I think it goes around the Orme and gives views of Anglesey.

LuckyLou7 · 19/07/2019 08:28

I second the sightseeing bus today - you can travel around Llandudno, Conway, the Great Orme, and stop off for food and drink whenever you want. Hope you have a reasonable day out. Such a shame the weather is so rubbish.

Gingernaut · 19/07/2019 09:52

Judging by the number of commuters in waterproof trousers, I'd say shit weather is the default around here.

OTOH, the show was brilliant and Capital Cymru is bilangual.

OP posts:
Ginnymweasley · 19/07/2019 09:58

I wouldn't say the weather is always shit but it's still the north of the uk so rain does happen. Still plenty to do in llandudno/conwy in this sort of weather. I'm about 5 miles from llandudno and the weather is wet but it's not windy and it's not cold so it's not the worse day.
Everything is bilingual in north wales although in rhyl you will find most people are english speakers rather than welsh

Gingernaut · 19/07/2019 12:52

But it's Capital!! Generic London based, pop music.

Walking round Great Orme atm. Decided against climbing up it. Fuck me, it's steep! 😱

There's a cable driven, funicular tram system, in two stages which runs from Llandudno to the Great Orme summit.

You can't buy a ticket at the Halfway Station.

Having blistered my heels in not very suitable shoes, I got into Clarks to go through their sale rail.

Why Clarks, why? Why make silver shoes with white soles? Why?

Before anyone starts, they were the only 3.5 E fitting shoes in the sale

But are you having fun yet?

Glad you went to the Rest and Be Thankful - my DD always says she feels like a character in a novel when we stop there for coffee and cake.

North Wales is a fantastic place, Rhyl really shouldn't be your first impression.

Gingernaut · 19/07/2019 19:14

Llandudno is grand.

Picturesque, busy and historical sites to visit - that tram is mad! 😱

I ❤ the Lighthouse Guest House. Beautifully set in the face of the cliff under the Rest & Be Thankful.

I would happily come to North Wales again, but maybe upgrade the accommodation.

You can stay at mine next time, I live in Rhos-on-Sea and it's nothing like Rhyl.

Gingernaut · 19/07/2019 19:33

I won't burden you, although you are very kind to offer LuckyLou.

I'll plan something for next year.

BoswellsBollocks · 19/07/2019 19:37

Aw Llandudno is brilliant!

Last time we went the weather was so awful we were there for a grand total of 50 mins until the next train home. I did buy some reduced creme eggs from boots and some ex Primark trousers for £3 from ‘you know who’s’ whilst hiding from the dreadful weather though so not all bad 😂

LuckyLou7 · 19/07/2019 19:43

I love that you went to the Rest and Be Thankful.
I love that you enjoyed the crazy tram to the summit of the Great Orme.
I'm glad you enjoyed the show you came here for.
I'm sad that Rhyl was your first impression of North Wales!! But even Rhyl has some good bits - the harbour and Marine Lake are lovely.
