Tried searching first but can't access anything.

What to do on a weekend in Edinburgh please ? Me plus 16.5 year old. Staying on the Royal Mile. Arriving by train at Waverley. Is there an open top bus tour ?
Recommendations for places to eat ?
Thanks

Yes there are tours, but it’s really not a very big place, I would recommend doing walking tours, you’ll see much more. They also do ghost tours in the evenings. Obviously there’s the castle, if you’re the active types you could walk up Arthur’s seat, visit Mary Kings close. Check out the “things to do” section on trip advisor, you can read reviews and see what you fancy.

We went at Easter with our dc (a bit younger but one a teen) and would definitely recommend the Camera Obscura and World of Illusions (one place) and Dynamic Earth.

Ooooh 16 yo will love a ghost tour. Good call. Thank you.

Meant to say - both walkable from the Royal Mile.

The open top tours depart from outside Waverley Station. You have the castle at the top of the Royal Mile, the ghost tours as @itsallafiddle said. The main shopping street is just up from the station if your teen wants to wander around the shops. You also have Edinburgh Dungeons just outside the station too so a few things to start you off in your vicinity.

Food wise what do you like?

GinisLife · 10/07/2019 06:45

We eat most things but I have a health issue currently that makes eating some things quite difficult so I have to read a menu first to check there's something I can eat - can't eat spicy food, meat is difficult, I eat a lot of cottage pie !! 😂.

Off the top of my head and again near to where you are staying - La Locanda (Italian) and Lailas (Mediterranean tapas I think) have good reviews and look nice when I've walked past before on Cockburn Street (street that connects station to Tron/Royal Mile).

Civerinos at the Tron is the best for Pizzas. Berties is a big place opposite station serving 'posh' fish and chips. I've never been but colleagues like it.

My fav place in town is Mexican so maybe wouldn't suit!

Ricekrispie22 · 10/07/2019 18:54

I agree with PP that Civerinos is the best for pizza. There are other Italian dishes on the menu if you can’t have pizza, although there are also vegan, lactose free and gluten options which my friend swears taste as good as the real thing.
If you’re looking for high quality food and drink served in a relaxed atmosphere then try Lebowskis.
I’d also recommend Coro the Chocolate Cafe and Mary’s Milk Bar.

Lots of open top bus tours inuding an open top mini bus! Also the ghost bus. It's rather beautiful done out, inside.

Thank you all. Some great ideas. We'll have a good time whatever we do I'm sure.
