Shetland Islands

Looking for June 2020.. Single female mid forties.. looking for advice.. Really want to do both Orkney and Shetland Islands in 8 days .. looking at coach up or flight Saturday evening to Aberdeen sleeper currently does not run Sundays. Then return Sunday from Aberdeen. . looking at ferry currently so Monday to wednesday in one place wednesday ferry then Thurs to sat island 2 sat by ferry flight Sunday to LHR ..

Do I need a car in both places or is public transport ok?

I would hire a car in Aberdeen as you would have more freedom getting about and more reliable.

Do not hire a car in Aberdeen - the cost of getting the car on the ferry is ridiculous. You will need a car in Orkney and Shetland in order to see the main sights.

Look on Northlink Ferries website for short itinerary plans, also Promote Shetland.

If flying, why not fly to Orkney or Shetland, then get the ferry overnight between the two (have a look at Northlink as it doesn’t go between the two everyday).
