Poundbury/Dorchester relocation

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone has any experience living in Dorchester or Poundbury? My partner has got work in Poole and we have been exploring all around (we visited Swanage but decided it was a bit too isolated) but are now looking seriously at Dorchester and Poundbury. The schools seem good but any insight would be helpful, we have a girl in Year One - is she likely to find a place? Also, is Poundbury just weird to live in?? How many young families live there?

Any insights gratefully received!

Thanks,

Laura

Hi I live in a village 10 minutes outside Dorchester. Dorchester is a lovely place. They have three tier schools. The secondary school is very highly thought of. Dorchester is a county town, doesn't have great shops but a lovely community feel. If working in Poole and don't fancy the town there are lovely villages just outside. Look at Puddletown, or the piddle-valley as these are just off of the main bypass to Poole. Poundbury has mixed views. I work in the community in that area and I like the mix of little shops and cafes. Some big expensive houses mixed with smaller town houses and social housing. It has a Waitrose, independent butchers, lots of cafes and clothes boutiques. I wouldn't live anywhere else, it's a lovely area. The countryside & coastline is beautiful. Good luck!
