torquay

anyone been to torquay in Devon? are there places near by that are nice like in ilfracombe or lynton and lynmouth where you can have a cream tea or a big pastie? don't want to go if it's not like the rest of Devon nearby.

i went last year. lots of cream teas in the hotels in babbacoombe. There is a whole stretch of hotels overlooking the sea and ALL of them do cream teas! Lots of scones and jam verywhere in fact!

is it oldy worldy like the rest of devon if you know hat i mean?

lots to do there? i have 3 year old and 8mth old

i haven;t been to the rest of devon so i couldn't tell you! Last year ds1 was 3 and ds2 was 1 and we had loads to do. We went with MIL and FIL and they go every year.

Babbcoombe model village, paignton zoo, lots of days on the beach, swimming in torquay centre, wandering round the shops in torquay (lots of toys shops!), went round monkswell abbey. there is a little beach that i have forgotten thename of but was lively. its down ilsham marine drive and altho stoney it was lovely and we went rock pooling a lot. not very practical with an 8 month old tho lol!

torquay isn't oldy wordy, it's the "RIVIERA!!" But there is lots on in the town and nearby.

Brixham is nearby and a nice little seaside town if the kids want to look at boats in the harbour. Berry Head is nice to go for a wall too.

babbacombe will be great, so many beaches to try around there, and get the bus into the torquay town centre for sea life centre etc. Really good pizza express in the centre.

Indoor play centre inside a church (its great) for rainy days, think its called Rainbow Fun House.

Miniature village is up in Babbacombe, to keep the childrens interest, they have to Find Wally somewhere. Each year they hide him in a different place, thank goodness!

You can then get the bus from Torquay, that goes along the sea front to Brixham via Paignton.

Craxy golf at paignton, big swans to pedal on the lake, red sand on the beach (!) and car park where we then catch the steam train to Dartmouth, that's a really good day out.

Brixham as LucyJones is great for fishing boats and a wander, and the walk to Berry Head is really good, great views. You can take the boat back to Torquay from Brixham.

LOADS TO DO!! We have great holidays down there. (oh yes and Paignton Zoo,, we like it there too)

Hey I live in Torquay when I started reading this I was that you were going to holiday here, but you guys have made it sound great, i'm actually looking forward to the weekend so we can take advantage of that steam train!
Why is it that you never really appreciate where you live until someone points out all the good bits?!

Cockington Court is lovely in Torquay. No, it's not 'olde worlde' like some of Devon, decidedly not imo but if you want pretty countryside there is plenty nearby.

more about the railway. If you take that trip get off the train at Kingswear and take the ferry (passenger or car ferry, they're very regular and you shouldn't have to queue if you're on foot) and go across to Dartmouth. Bayards Cove is where the ferry comes in (to the left) and is pretty, as is Dartmouth. Kendricks restaurant is good, which is 5 minutes walk if you turn right off the ferry and walk along Lower St and wandering around Dartmouth is nice.

And Kendricks are nice to children ime.
The Royal Naval College is also impressive, if you like that kind of thing, they do tours.
