Southampton and area

We plan on travelling from Scotland to do a one week cruise from Southampton. We have another week after. Can anyone in or around the area give us idea as to what we could do? We are a fairly relaxed family. Like a decent hotel with food and a good glass of wine. Something to keep a 10 year old occupied. Could hire a car but would ultimately fly back to Scotland probably.

Paultons park is in the Southampton area...theme parky. Also Beaulieu which is a motor museum in the New Forest (bond cars, classic cars and a monorail 🤣). Loads of good places to eat in the Southampton area too :)

I know you've said you like a good hotel, but if you're going to be without a car for a week and you have a 10yo, I'd consider staying at Sandy Balls. It's half an hour from Southampton in the New Forest. Several of the lodges have hot tubs, there's a large indoor swimming pool, outdoor pool, bike hire, adventure playground with zip wire, spa, bush-craft school, laser tag, archery and loads more activities to keep a 10 yo happy! There are two restaurants, one of which they've just given a makeover!
