Moving to Manchester?

Hi all,
I'm an Australian mum who's new to mumsnet. I've been offered a job in Manchester so we're looking at moving over. It'll be me, dh, and my 2 dds (aged 1 and 4). Would anyone have any advice on areas to live in with good schools and public transport? We'd be arriving November so we're going to miss the start of the school year for my older daughter. I'm hoping there's an option for mid-year entry as she doesn't turn 5 until next July.
Thanks everyone! Hopefully I'll be around mumsnet a bit more!

Hi. I'm in Manchester :)

What area is the job based?

Place marking!

It's at the University of Manchester. So I think that's pretty central?

So I place marked hoping some info would come through - looking to move for school. I currently live in Manchester and hear great things about Sale and Altrincham for schools, both primary and secondary - some of the best in the country. There’s also the met which makes it easy to get to oxford road where the uni is.

Other than reading the OFSTED reports I don’t know much about the schools - once schools have been deemed outstanding they don’t get checked again unless grades fall (from what I have been told).

I’ll keep my eye on here in case anyone can add to this. It’ll help me too!

Good luck with the move.
