Leicester with DS 5

We’re having a night near Leicester in a couple of weeks to meet DH’s mum and dad half way so will have the next day to explore! Is there anywhere good to go with DS? Somewhere he can have a run about or that there’s lots to do but doesn't cost a fortune.

National space centre?

Peabody25 · 22/07/2018 21:10

I did look at that but would work out at £50 for the 4 of us and couldn't work out from the website how much there was to do rather than just look at.

Thanks though

oh i LOVE twycross zoo!! they let you feed the lorakeet birds for about £1. not too big a zoo and very friendly. xx

SoyDora · 22/07/2018 21:13

I haven’t been (although live close by) but I have a friend with 4 DC (aged 1-7) and they all love it.
Abbey Park is nice. Bradgate Park is lovely too.

SoyDora · 22/07/2018 21:13

Conkers is fab too.

Peabody25 · 22/07/2018 21:19

Love the look of Conkers, I'll have a look at Twycross Zoo as well.

Stonehurst farm :)

SoyDora · 22/07/2018 21:21

Twycross is quite pricey!

Knittedfairies · 22/07/2018 21:22

Bradgate Park is a great place for children to have a run about.

RamblingFar · 22/07/2018 21:23

Abbey pumping museum in the grounds of the Space Centre. Free to get into I believe, and close to Abbey Park for a run around afterwards. I think the museum on New Walk is free to get into too, has dinosaurs and Egypt on the ground floor which my year 1 class used to like.

Katescurios · 22/07/2018 21:25

Rutland water, bosworth water trust, bradgate park

Ibelieveinkarma · 22/07/2018 21:27

I know Leicester very well. There's the Abbey pumping station (free) right next door to the space centre, with a 5 minute drive from Abbey Park (fair there at the moment).
There's also Gorse Hill farm, about another 5 or 10 min drive away, and there's the King Richard visitor centre in the City centre.

Ibelieveinkarma · 22/07/2018 21:30

I see a pp has already mentioned the pumping station!
The space centre (whilst a little expensive) is definitely the best one to visit

French2019 · 22/07/2018 21:31

Another vote for Bradgate Park!

French2019 · 22/07/2018 21:31

Sorry, I don't think the Space centre is worth the huge entrance fee!

Racecardriver · 22/07/2018 21:45

Leicester isn't very child friendly but there is a museum along the old victorian walk from the town centre to the direction of the University. It starts near pizza express from memory. Rutland water is nearby. Burley house isn't too fair either and the park is free. There are lots of lovely villages just outside of Leicester-maybe a pub lunch and a visit to the playground/walk around the church yard? Leicestershire is very pretty but Leicester has been completely destroyed, genuinely one of the most soul sucking places in Britain.

SweepTheHalls · 22/07/2018 21:48

New Walk museum is great.

toothgenie · 22/07/2018 21:57

Conkers has a Groupon family ticket offer at the moment.
I think there is a funfair at Abbey Park during the summer. There is a boating lake there and a miniature railway.
Bradgate Park is lovely too, no entrance fee but parking charges.
I always look at trip advisor for ideas when I'm visiting somewhere.

Katescurios · 22/07/2018 22:07

Bosworth water trust is really worth a look, my CD spent the day there with her gran a few weeks ago and loved it. Man made beach, softplay indoors and outdoors play park, cafes for food or shades areas for picnic, flamingo pedal boats. I think entrance fee is £5 per car.

Sauvignonblanket · 22/07/2018 22:18

Bradgate Park and Abbey Park are both great - maybe also a run on the Grand Central Railway?

MayorHumdinger · 23/07/2018 08:21

New Walk museum and Abbey Park Pumping Station if you're in the city.

Bradgate Park, Beacon Hill or Switherland wood if you want time outside.

MayorHumdinger · 23/07/2018 08:23

I assume you've been to very few places in Britain then!
