How far are you willing to travel? Driving? Train?

We are driving down, can break it up.
Is Lego land too much ? And is Blackpool nice ?

Legoland isn't too bad but it isn't near any beaches and it would be quite a trek for you. I'd recommend Flamingoland in Yorkshire. It's got more rides that would appeal to a 12 year old, it's got a zoo as well and it's only 45 minutes from the Scarborough. Scarborough has lovely big sandy beaches with all the traditional fun including donkey rides and rockpooling. There's loads to do in and around Scarborough. We like the sealife marine sanctuary, Alpamere Water Park, Scarborough speedboat rides, Luna Park Fair, the Scarborough Fair collection of vintage traditional fairground rides, and North Bay steam railway. The Railway starts at Peasholm Park (which is a great place to explore in itself). As well as having a soft play area, Olympia Leisure centre has a ten pin bowling alley.

I second North York's & Flamingoland. I'm originally from Yorkshire now living near London. We had some wonderful holidays in North Yorkshire when DS was little, including having donkey rides at Filey, vampire hunts at Whitby, and the highlight was always Flamingoland. So much better than Chessington too.
