Need urgent help for a trip to Devon!

I did lots of research and planned a trip to
Ilfracombe for the end of June and booked and air bnb. It's been cancelled suddenly due to the host being ill. There aren't many suitable places available in ilfracombe now and it's meant to be a relaxing long weekend before I go back to work. We're mid house buying so all my spare time is taken up with dealing with that, would really appreciate any advice. We can go anywhere in Devon, we drive but would like to have a pub within walking distance. It's me, DH and DS (1). We'd like somewhere with nice walks that aren't too strenuous (don't need to be buggy friendly) and a nice town / village to wander round with things to visit nearby. Please help!

I obviously don't know your exact dates, but looking at booking.com for the last weekend in June, filtering for self catering, holiday home or apartment brings up some reasonable looking stuff.

Oh, with a location of ilfracombe!

Seahawk80 · 30/05/2018 16:19

Sorry I should have been clearer, was trying to write this and stop my nieces pushing DS down the stairs! We don't have to go to
Ilfracombe but I don't know where else would be good. For example nice places in Barnstaple are available but I have no idea what it's like. I'm looking for suggestions of good locations. We are are coming from London so want somewhere not too big

There's availability here and it's very baby/toddler friendly www.robinhillfarmcottages.co.uk/child-friendly-family-holidays.php They currently have a 20% offer for arrivals between 15th and the end of June.

If you don't have any luck, try comptonpool.co.uk and www.birchillfarm.co.uk

Have you considered Brixham? Lots of stuff to do, nice beaches, loads of holiday cottages and some holiday parks too.

East Devon is simply lush! Try around Ottery st Mary, Beer or Branscombe

We stayed at West pusehill farm cottages last year and loved it. There's a pub next door - the pig on the hill. They have a swimming pool, play area and my kids loved the animals. It's an ok walk to westward Ho and the beach, but I'll admit we mostly drove so we didn't have lug the stuff about.
I've checked and I think they have a couple of cottagrs available for your dates

Croyd! You could try & get a nice challet at 'the burrows' right on the beach. We love Woolacombe but camp whilst there.

Where are you travelling from? If its only a long weekend I'd try and stay closer to the M5/Exeter rather than heading up the North Devon Link Road.

Places such as Exmouth, Lympstone, Topsham, Ottery, Budleigh, would all be good - as pp said, East Devon but close to Exeter.

Something like this in Topsham would be fab. V close to the M5 J30, with an estuary rail line and cycle path so you can walk chunks then get the train for the rest and easy train or drive to Exmouth beaches, there's The Goat Walk which is a lovely walk with sea views, you can get a ferry across to a pub called The Turf on a little island on the Exe, there's the floating Exe Cafe, river front pubs such as The Passage House and The Lighter, posh farm shop with cafe/restaurant called Darts Farm...

Thanks so much everyone. Loads to look at here. House buying has taken over the last few days so I'm really grateful for all the help. Will let you know how we get on.

Just been to East Devon and loved Beer and Lyme Regis (Dorset) - stayed at Hawkchurch Resort and Spa.
