Hi
So it seems that we are heading to Scotland in holiday this year as dh really wants to go to the world pipe band championships. We are staying about 20 miles sw of glasgow. Any suggestions for things to do? We have one dd who is 10 and loves history and the beach! Thank s!

Would recommend New Lanark World Heritage village. You can tour the old mills and see the looms in action, learn the history of the social reform, visit an old schoolroom where you can dress up and play traditional games. There's also a visitor experience - a wee ride that takes you through a tableau showing what life was like for families. The village setting is incredible with woodland walks to the Falls of Clyde and a great playpark.

Linlithgow Palace is great, and Edinburgh is just packed with history - the tourist bus is a good way to get round them.

For beaches, Ardrossan is nice, or there is Largs - there is Vikingar Viking history centre, and Nardini’s ice cream parlour - utterly delicious gelato!

I second Largs and Nardini’s! Also get ferry from there to Millport (Cumbrae) and cycle round.
Get train to Wemyss Bay beautiful Victorian station, then ferry to Rothesay on Bute and go see the Victorian listed toilets!
I recommend tenement museum in Glasgow, very interesting to see how people lived in such close quarters.

The Glasgow Science Centre, Transport Museum and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum are all good choices with plenty to interest kids.

Definitely Culzean castle

I was all ready to post but cyberworrier has said it all for me! The only thing i'd add is the Burrell Collection

Cyberworrier · 02/06/2018 08:05

Great minds Lucy!

Jaxinthebox · 02/06/2018 08:09

There is lots to do in the SW area. Culzean is lovely as are the coastal beaches around that area.

Of course everyone is nice too - if you arent sure just ask and 'we' will be happy to recommend places to go/eat etc.

Excellent! I am getting a bit excited now!!
