Hello,
I wanted to know what are your suggestions for a 2 days break away from London. I will rent a car and would like to avoid theme parks and beaches..

My son is 4yo and I'm wondering what would be a good place to go to have fun for kids and adults together....

Longleat in Wiltshire. It takes between 2 and 2.5 hours from London. We go via Basingstoke Aquadrome which is hardly any detour at all. The lagoon pool has rapids, waves, interactive water features for toddlers, a beach and flumes. There's a separate area for little swimmers with a splash pool and play area with water jets, tipping buckets, water wheels etc..
At Longleat you have the safari park which you can drive around as many times as you like. There's also a jungle cruise boat trip to see the sea lions, hippos and gorilla island, a small aquarium, petting zoo, bat cave, walk through aviary, massive hedge maze, miniature railway, penguin island, and indoor and outdoor play areas. There are lots of keeper talks and opportunities to feed or handle the animals.
If you get time, try and explore the house and gardens. There's a Secret Garden, Sun Maze and Lunar Labyrinth, both of which can be accessed through the charming Peacock Garden.
If you come back via Swindon and Chippenham, there are two excellent places to stop. Once we went to the REME military museum which was excellent for young children and another time we went to Jungle Parc. The Adventure Course is designed for children from the age of 4 and has activities such as rocket launchers, rope bridges, swings and cargo nets. Parents can accompany children free of charge on this course. jungleparc.co.uk/Lydiard-Park,-Swindon
We stay at Home Farm B&B which has 30% off Longleat tickets for guests. homefarmboreham.com

Isle of Wight .....2 hrs to Portsmouth by car from London, ferry adds to the sense of adventure. Obviously there are beaches but not in the least crowded like Devon etc. Loads and loads to do for little ones - nice petting farms, Google Robin Hill (all outdoor), Seaview is charming also. Good luck!
