Hi everybody,
Advice needed please, my children are 20, 17 and 14 years old, we are planning on moving to south/ mid wales, my main concern is the language barrier regarding work and school, will the be accepted easily, or will they battle to make friends etc x

There are more Welsh speakers in the North than South and a decent proportion in mid. There will not be an issue with Welsh speaking unless they want to apply for some public sector jobs where Welsh would be an advantage. They would not be offered a welsh medium school at 14 years.

Welcome to Wales!
I've lived and worked in South Wales all my life and now have children here. Absolutely no need to speak the language, even in Welsh speaking areas like I live at the moment people are mainly bilingual.
I work in public sector and there's no real advantage to speak it even there unless you're in a Welsh specific role. You'll all be fine.

Hi many thanks for replying,
I think I just over worry, my youngest daughter is very much a people magnet and seems to get on and make friends easily, has already said she has no issues with moving,

If you are planning on coming down south you'll be fine. You can normally tell how "Welsh" an area is by how many Welsh speaking schools there are in the area. I'm in South Wales and many of my friends are bilingual in that they went to Welsh schools but they never speak it. It's handy to learn for council jobs however.
