Lovely country hotel or pub with rooms within easy reach of London?

Hello all

I'm looking for a cosy country hotel or pub with rooms within easy reach of London by train. Somewhere that has lovely rooms, good food, space to relax and nice countryside for walking. Budget is negotiable.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Probably max 2hrs or so by train (don't mind a taxi at the other end but we don't have a car so can't drive there).

Beaulieu Hotel in the New Forest is a recently-renovated gastro style pub with bright, cosy, individual rooms. It has an indoor pool, bikes for hire and New Forest ponies grazing directly opposite the front door. It's right next to the station so no taxi needed (unless you have a big suitcase) and it takes 1hr45mins from Waterloo including one change.
