Moving to Wales.

We are considering moving to Wales, specially near the Chester border. My concern is that none of us speak Welsh and don't plan on our DD learning to speak Welsh. She is almost 6, but currently homeschooled. The plan is to move her to school when we move at the soonest, or move her to school when she is 11 for secondary school.

If we are living in Wales can our DD go to school in England since we will be closeish to the border. We found a few houses in Deeside.

Are there any other considerations when moving from England to Wales? Any of you move from England to Wales and have words of wisdom or experience?

You don't need to speak Welsh in that area. It's anglicised. As for schools, they are almost all English medium ( I can only think of Maes Garmon in Mold that's Welsh Medium and it's a High School). The only difference your DD would notice would be the Welsh lessons.

So the Welsh lessons are learning to speak Welsh, or about Welsh History, or somethign else?

The lessons are Welsh Language lessons. I can't remember how many hours are given to them, possibly an hour a week. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I wouldn't worry about it though, I went all through school learning Welsh like this, as did all my children. We don't speak Welsh at all but we know basics if you know what I mean. I'm Welsh too!
