My husband and I are thinking of going to Guernsey for a week in September with our baby (who’ll be 7 months old). We have no specific dates in mind, and can avoid school holidays.
The plan is to take our own car, so we would take the ferry from either Poole or Portsmouth. We’d prefer Poole given that that makes for a much shorter ferry journey.
I have two questions for anyone in the know:
- Any tips for getting discounts or special offers on the ferry? I’ve looked at prices, and it’s more expensive than we were hoping for. We will have an estate car with a bike on the roof.
- Where specifically would you recommend we focus our accommodation search? We would like to stay in an Airbnb or similar. We are not precious about being right on the coast. Our only must-haves are parking and at least one pub and little shop within easy walking distance.
If I receive a resounding response recommending Jersey instead of Guernsey, we will consider it, but we actually spent our wedding anniversary in Jersey a couple of years ago so are keen to branch out!
