Are any MN'ers out there planning to spend holidays at Bedruthan Steps during June? If so what do you think of the late notice of building work and disruption to indoor swimming and spa facillities?

Yes we're booked to go end of June/early July and are v unhappy about building work. Am trying to get money off at mo - not easy! But have tried to book similar stay elsewhere in Cornwall and all fully booked. Think that it is very late notice and there seems to be no picture available of pool at Tredragon hotel.

oh no, what a nightmare, that is not on at all. we went last yr, and was gonig to book up for this june, glad we havent. you should def get money off or be able to cancel your stay with no deposit being kept etc.

we also went to glyn barton cottages, try them, very lovely.

Anyone recommend anywhere similar to go i.e. quality family hotel near beach?

BoingBoing · 07/05/2007 19:09

The only other one I can think of is the Watergate Bay, but I suspect that one will be totally booked up. Good luck.

To hertsnessex - as you've been to Bedruthan steps hotel before, the disruption aside, do you think it will matter too much if indoor pool not great?

we booked first week of july ^what/where is the announcemnet?

Tronkmanton · 07/05/2007 19:14

The Woolacombe bay hotel in Devon is good

hertsnessex · 07/05/2007 19:15

we didnt spend alot of time in there. went twice i think, it was nice, and im not sure of the disruption they are planning, but there is tons of other stuff to do if you dont get 2 use it at all. however i still think you need to spk to the hotel and ask for a discount. we also spent alot of time at the beach and in the play areas.

we are away at the moment. i will be really pissed off if that letter is waiting for me. Did they give dates, we arrive 30th June. I specifically asked about noise and they didnt mention anything and I only booked about 3 weeks ago and got the last room apparently. can anyone that cancels or get money off post it on here so they cant fob anyone off. That is really outrageous.

When we spoke to the Hotel last Friday they said the main work would be starting on June 7th. This would be fairly noisy disruptive work, with Jackhammers etc, to get all of the tilling off, and would last for approx. two weeks. The rest of the building work should not be as noisy. They are also building another road down to the beach, but this should be completed before June.

We went to this Hotel twice last year and had a really fantastic time and did spend most of our time out and about, but of course British weather being as it is you need the back up of on site, indoor facilities. The other pool they are suggesting is within walking distance, but rather than just needing towels or beach robes to get back to the room, it will now mean changing completely which is a bit of a drag.

We specifically choose one of the Villa Suites as this is away from the main noise of Hotel, as dd2 still needs her lunchtime nap of 2-3 hours.

I think they could have let us know a lot sooner, as now it is impossible to change, at this late date.

I have just got back and have the same letter - we are going 30th june - 8th july. I am going to phone them on Monday and ask for money off. Will let you know how I get on.

currantbunmum · 11/05/2007 17:21

Thanks barbamama, it would be really good if you could let me know how your phone call goes. Maybe they will be more receptive if more people call them, and let them know it really isn't acceptable to give such late notice of building work.

Did you manage to speak to the hotel today barbamama? What was their response?
