Hi we are down there on the 9th June.
Yes Modbury is a village .

Helennn · 17/04/2007 12:14

Pelvicfloor - just checking you noticed that Sorley Tunnel has now closed, didn't want you to be disappointed! Our guinea pig came from there when they shut, .

Another good day out if you like steam trains would be the round robin from Dartmouth, up the River Dart to Totnes on a boat, bus to Buckfastleigh, (not far), then back to Kingswear by Steam Train. I couldn't find any info. on it but fairly sure it still runs. You can buy tickets from the booths on the embankment in Dartmouth. Nice for grown-ups too!!

How about a nice walk from Start Point down the long path to the light house? They do guided tours and it is buggy friendly, (the walk, not the light-house!). There are some gorgeous coastal villages nearby to discover such as Hallsands and Beesands, they are down long, narrow lanes which tends to keep people away. They are stoney beaches but are beautiful with free parking and Beesands has a freshwater ley as well as the sea.

Moreleigh is about 20-30 mins. away, but you are central for so many places.

Beauregard · 17/04/2007 12:16

Helennn-It is closed really!
Blimey that is a surprise ,thought it was a popular place, was always busy.

Helennn · 17/04/2007 12:17

Yes, fraid so. Owners moved abroad I believe and nobody wanted to buy it. Lots of locals used to spend a lot of time there!!!

Beauregard · 17/04/2007 12:20

I take it you are local then?

yeahinaminute · 17/04/2007 12:22

And the Yeahinaminute gang are in East Prawle from 9th - 30th June !!!

Iam also in Plymouth this weekend on girls weekend away - staying in Crownhill Fort !!

Can't leave Devon alone can I ??

So who/where in June?

Littlelapin/Blackawton

Cocobabe / Morleigh

YIAM/East Prawle

and all the resident Devon - aires !!!

Beauregard · 17/04/2007 12:25

We all have good taste obviously.

yeahinaminute · 17/04/2007 12:30

Just sooo crashingly fashionable darling !!

Eschewing the hell that airports + kids can be and thinking of the carbon footprint !

Cocobabe · 17/04/2007 12:31

LOL - i agree with pelvic !
Devon is the obvious 'it ' place to go for holidays this year !

Cocobabe · 17/04/2007 12:33

how far is Moreleigh to Bigbury ?

RustyBear · 17/04/2007 12:37

If you park at start point for the lighthouse, there is also a lovely walk down to a beautiful beach (Mattiscombe) - but definitely only for older ones, not buggy friendly (unless someone's done a lot of work on it since I was there last)

Helennn · 17/04/2007 12:54

Yes pelvicfloor - I am local, live in Chillington. This thread does remind me how many things there are to do around here - you do rather take it for granted, although not so good in the winter admittedly!

I am away beginning part of June until the 16th, (on a bit fat aeroplane all the way to Italy and France - yeah!!!!! can't wait).

If you are staying at Prawle have you ever been hereit looks interesting? Nice cafe too.

yeahinaminute · 17/04/2007 13:06

Helenn - yes I have been there - it is good !

A friend has a place in Challaborough - we call it her little place in Devon - it's a static !!! - but very lovely !- So have spent a few fab breaks down there with her and her DD - and, although I used to live in Plymouth years ago - got to know the area quite well - so this year we're renting a cottage in E. Prawle - for 3 - yes count them - 3 whole weeks !! [smug] !!!

I'll meet you by the bird sanctuary - If I go on the beach I'll be harpooned or Greenpeace will try to winch me in to the sea !!!

gess · 17/04/2007 14:27

why's it called slapton sands when it's pebbly ??? [confused emoticon]

Helennn · 17/04/2007 14:39

Yeahinaminute - link please to where you are staying I have cleaned most of holiday cottages in Prawle in my previous seriously hard-up years.

Cocobabe - timings of journeys are hard to judge unfortunately, depends if you are going to use the country lanes or not - you can use the lanees to get just about anywhere around here thus avoiding the caravan drivers who wouldn't dream of reversing if they meet you in the narrows! Suggest practice reversing skills before you leave if nec. then you can use the lanes and get everywhere much quicker. Then Moreleigh to Bigbury would be approx. 15-20 mins at a guess.

Rustybear - but have you been to Lannacombe? (loved your photo's btw).

yeahinaminute · 17/04/2007 14:50

Staying in a house attached to a BB - when you come in to the village just turn right by the farm - but I'm sure they do their own cleaning !!

Helennn · 17/04/2007 14:54

Yeahinaminute - OK then, but are you sure you don't mean turn left just after the farm, I don't recall there being a right there? Or are we talking about a different farm,(the farm is owned by my friends dh's family, the Tuckers), just before the duck pond.

yeahinaminute · 17/04/2007 15:05

No - approaching E Prawle from Stokenham, farm on the right - pass the Duck Pond, turn right and it's on the left

At least is was definitely there in March !
