Good Evening, we are planning at 1 night trip to London Sunday afternoon to Monday evening. We are staying near tower bridge and are planning on going to the south bank/ borough market/ Bermondsey while we are there. Can anyone recommend anywhere to eat & drink we love tapas/ Spanish but will eat anything!

Also what to do the Monday day? We’ve done a lot of the touristy stuff so something different just people watching & wandering mainly

The tube are we best just using contactless?

Thank you

Who makes up the group?
Barrafina is a fantastic tapas restaurant (s) we have been to the Adelaide St branch... no booking and small groups only .
Bus travel is quick and much more pleasant and interesting than tube . Contactless works very well; the places you have mentioned are all walkable anyway.

Thank you I’ll check out that tapas place, it’s me and DH a child free break

Brindisa in Borough Market is a good Spanish restaurant. Padella is great for Pasta but you can’t book and there are often long queues. That’s borough market as well. Have a great trip!

Thank you we are definitely heading to Borough Market so I will have a look at them

Maltby street market has several amazing Spanish places, and won't be far. Not as busy or expensive as Borough Market.

wingingit123 · 23/10/2017 00:30

Thank you will put Maltby Street on my list

Yes! Go to Il Bordello in Wapping, only a few mins walk from Tower Bridge, maybe 15 mins. It's the best restaurant locally and DH and I love it! Sadly we don't live very near now.

Greenwich is lovely to wander around. You can actually take a boat from Tower Bridge. There's a lovely market, cute shops and loads of food options. Plus the huge park.

AntiHop · 23/10/2017 00:35

Oh yes and the museums in Greenwich eg cutty sark and maritime.

Bue · 23/10/2017 00:41

@CheckpointCharlie2 I love Il Bordello! Never come across anyone else who knows it before Smile My mum always stays in a flat in Wapping when she visits London, which is how we discovered it.

OP Brindisa at Borough Market is very popular and will fit the bill.

wingingit123 · 23/10/2017 07:13

Thank you everyone

Come back and tell us what you ate :)

"The tube are we best just using contactless? "

Yes. It's so easy. Just make sure you have a contactless card each as you can't use the same card for 2 people. Also, don't forget to use the contactless point on the way out of the tube. In some stations it isn't obvious.

CheckpointCharlie2 · 23/10/2017 11:41

Ooh bue yeay! DH took me back for my bday last year and I think it was the happiest night of my whole life! The smell, the (same) waiters and the bruschetta! I am drooling!

wingingit123 · 24/10/2017 21:02

Thank you, looking forward to trying a few of the places

We ate at Lupins last month - like tapas but modern English rather than Spanish. Delicious.

FairyPenguin · 24/10/2017 21:06

PS I would also recommend visiting Greenwich. It is lovely. Or try one of the London Walks if the Monday ones take your fancy.

HundredMilesAnHour · 24/10/2017 21:13

Bizarre. Il Bordello is well known by lots of people either living in E1/SE1 and/or working in the City. Must I preferred their earlier restaurant La Lanterna over near Butler's Wharf but they sold that and now just have Il Bordello.

If I was only in London for one night, I don't think I'd go to a good but bog-standard Italian when there are so many other options that are much less common outside London. For example, Macellaio on Union St if the OP wants Italian (much more modern, hip London with an excellent butchery and bakery).

Jose Pizarro for tapas. Enjoy!
