Derby Dales Questions

Trying to remember the name of a place I visited in the Dales about 20 years ago.

It was a walking trail with stepping stones over a river.......there was also a part of the river that was really shallow that people were walking across.

Thinking of going with the DCs next year.

Second question is: does anyone know of a lovely cottage for 4, remote but not too remote???

Dovedale?

PurpleDaisies · 10/10/2017 20:05

That's definitely dove dale.

ShatnersBassoon · 10/10/2017 20:07

The walking trail was probably the Tissington Trail.

somewhereovertherain · 10/10/2017 20:10

Would agree it’s dovedale

Laquila · 10/10/2017 20:13

Was it Dovedale? Or elsewhere on the river Dove?

Laquila · 10/10/2017 20:14

You might want to wait for another eleven posters to confirm though 😂

Honestly, there were no replies when I started typing!!

There's also stepping stones down Chee
Dale and you can walk along the Monsal Trail to get there.

But it's more likely to be the Dove Dale stepping stones.

there was also a part of the river that was really shallow that people were walking across.

Was the water bleeding freezing with the sharpest tiny pebbles known to man that embed into the sole of your feet? That's Dovedale. Right near Thorpe Cloud.

BaconAndAvocado · 10/10/2017 21:09

Yes, yes and yes!

It was Dovedale! Thank you all Smile

So.......best places/cottages to stay near Dovedale?!

What time of year are you going? Peak season is heaving at Dovedale and won't be the rose tinted experience you remember it as!

BaconAndAvocado · 10/10/2017 21:21

You're probably right!

Either Feb half term, Easter or May half term.
