Farm holiday

Does anyone know of a farm stay ( self catering cottage..with double and twin room for family of 4)? Would like it to be the only unit on a working farm...cows would be fab asy 10 year old loves cows. Somewhere kids (11 and 13 by then) can interact with animals or help with farm duties. Not Dartmoor as too close to home, but North or West Cornwall, North Devon, Dorset, Gloucester area etc all be great..Possibly further afield. Looking for summer of 2018. Cheers

You will easily find somewhere that is a working farm if you look on the farmstays.co.uk website. however, how much interaction you get with the animals is going to be down to the owners and if its important I would ask these questions to them specifically rather than assume that they would include you. health and safety means that the amount of interaction and farm duties is going to be very limited. never used to be like this but it is now. there are loads of places where you can feed animals, look for eggs etc. less where you can do herding and milking.

Trevithick on Trenderway Farm.

It's a small working farm and B&B. They don't take children at the B&B, but the house is across the fields from the farm, and they take families there. For some reason you book it through AirBnB, rather than direct, but it's the same farm.

They had cows, sheep, alpacas, chickens and geese. We walked through their cider orchards to get to the farmhouse. The owners were really nice. The farmer, Yaron, was a total softy with the kids. He was happy to include them whenever he could.

(We also walked through the fields to a lane that led to Polperro, where we swam in a Victorian tidal pool halfway down the cliffs. Not exactly what you're asking for - but awesome!)

Hoe Grange farm near Bakewell is wonderful. Only a few units.
