Single parent, two dd. Arrived at rented holiday home yesterday to find it hadn't been cleaned. Immediately noticed towels in the bath and beds unmade.
Rang letting agency who were very apologetic, and they tried in vain to contact cleaner. Eventually someone - not the cleaner - turned up with fresh linen and towels, helped me strip the beds and took the dirty washing. I remade the beds. Rest of the house looked ok at first glance, carpet didn't obviously need hoovering, but we later found dirty dishes in dishwasher and toothpaste smears on bathroom shelf etc.
It's not been a huge problem but wasn't how I was expecting to spend th first few hours of my holiday. This is the third year running we've used this agency, although first time we've stayed in this particular property, and not had any problems before. Agency will maybe offer a discount if we book with them for next year, but would it be better to ask for some money back from the cost if this year's rental, which was about £900?
