Which area are you staying and what kind of stuff is your eldest into? What are you interested in? There's lots of stuff todo depending on what your looking for.

Alnwick Gardens are good too, but not cheap!
Bamburgh Castle (and Bamburgh generally).
Beadnell Bay for acres of sand.

Thanks everyone. My daughter likes outdoors. Any advice on if any of the Newcastle museums would be suitable for rainy days?

Visit the Baltic then walk along the river to 7 stories and oesburn farm!

Hancock museum and the discovery museum are great for that agr group, take a change of clothes for the Play Tyne area (they get wet).
