where did you stay floating?
I'm tempted by nice-seeming hotel (we couldn't afford it when it gets warmer) which even at easter seems to charge Antigua prices

We've been at Easter & had nice weather, but mostly cool & showery, typical Spring weather. Last time we went at Easter the tides were so low we could walk from Bryher to Tresco, so sort of paddling! Which hotel are you thinking of?

dinny · 27/02/2007 16:51

I'm from Scilly, Bakedpotato. Weather v unpredictable always - have swam at easter and have worn gloves!

sea is always freezing! where are you staying?

Hell Bay maybe

But £££ and weather iffy and it's such a palaver to get there... I'm feeling less sure now

Had a nice hols on St Mary's when I was little, prob easter as I can remember daffs out, but yes it was blowy.

We've stayed at Hell Bay 3 times and loved it, always in September though. It is expensive, but a lovely treat if you do their 4-night off season breaks. Getting there is part of the fun; not so much the drive from London to Penzance but the helicopter, then the tractor ride, boat trip from Tresco and land-rover over the bumpy island roads.
Usually we self-cater which is what we're doing this year. We always stay on Bryher, it's our favourite island.

booge · 27/02/2007 20:57

I used to live there, the only thing to really worry about is the fog incase you get stranded one end or t'other (unless your going on the boat btw that's not green for envy). If your lucky it will be wonderful. I might go for a visit.

dinny · 27/02/2007 21:25

Booge, wonder if I know you... Are you from Scilly?

booge · 28/02/2007 10:08

Hi Dinny, I'm not from Scilly but I worked there for a few years, I mainly know people on Tresco and Bryher.

dinny · 28/02/2007 16:04

ah, well prob not then. am from St Mary's -sadly on mainland atm but hope to be back within next 5 years.

Miaou · 28/02/2007 16:11

Dh worked on Tresco a couple of years ago so I just picked his brains

He says:

Island Hotel on Tresco is really lovely but probably similar price to Hell Bay (if not a bit more).

The pub on Tresco (New Inn) is also very nice, a bit cheaper than the Island or Hell Bay, but probably booked up by now.

St Martin's Hotel on St Martin's also gorgeous.

Might be able to get a s/c cottage on Tresco at a cheaper rate, depending on how long you want to go for.

Huge range of accommodation on St Mary's, with varying prices, but dh was on Tresco so doesn't know any more details about that.

HTH!!

booge · 02/03/2007 18:08

When was your dh on Tresco Miaou? I left in
99.

booge · 02/03/2007 18:09

Oh and all the cottages on Tresco are timeshare sadly.

Miaou · 03/03/2007 09:16

Oh he was there a lot more recently - winter of 2004/5 (I think)
