Stuff to do in Dorset

Planning on camping for a week in the summer, near Lulworth Cove.

Ideas so far include;

Lyme Regis and fossil hunting
Longleat
Monkey World
Sea Life place at Weymouth

Any other ideas. DD will be 6.

Brownsea island, Poole.Went there as a youngster wuith school. Lots of animals to look out for etc. It's hard to say really, I live in Dorset but have no lo's yet. So stuck now.

Abbotsbury- look at the swans and the tropical gardens and go to the play barn soft play thing. There's a lovely farm park called Farway near Honiton- probably too far for the day but you could combine it with Lyme Regis, maybe. Dorchester on a wet day- Teddy Bear Museum and Dinosaur Museum. Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth. There's loads to do round there to be honest- just pick up some leaflets once you're there

And Tutankahmun (sp) in Dorchester. At the bottom of town theres a place called terracota warriors. It's a museum of sorts, don't actually know whats in it. Only seen it walking past. Take some bread and feed the ducks along the river. tons of em down there.Only if it's nice though.

there's loads to do, you will be spoilt for choice!

As said, go to a tourist info office and pick up loads of leaflets, but there is Farmer Palmers near Wareham, Swanage is a lovely seaside town, plus there is the steam train connecting Swanage with the park+ride at norden (near Wareham), with corfe castle on the same line; oceanarium at Bournemouth; moors valley - oooh could go on and on, have a great time.

Studland is a beautiful beach, worth a visit.

Crab fishing at Mudeford & catch boat to Hengistbury Head.

Wet days Farmer Palmers, Organford & Alice in Wonderland (not called that anymore, Wonderland or something like that) by Bournemouth Airport.

Studland Beach, Sandbanks, Alum Chine.

Wimborne Model Village with Honeybrook Farm shop (has good playground, walks and you can fish in the stream.

Swanage Railway.

Make camps at Badbury Rings

Fighting Cocks Inn Godshill in New Forest followed by walk.

Fireworks at Poole & Bournemouth, Thursday nights I think in the summer.

Kingston Maurwood

I can second everything Pickledcat has said. I think you're staying in West Dorset and most of these things are East Dorset but definitely worth a visit.

I've lived in Dorchester 28yrs and never been to half these places. Abbotsbury i have and the swannery, but that was when i was 10. Quite sad really. Don't think they had some of these places when i was younger though.At kingston maurward there is a farm and i think you can touch the animals. Go on there web site.

Lulworth Castle has jousting in summer, kimmerdige not to far from Lulworth Cove for fossils, Corfe castle has castle, model village and access to steam train, Weymouth has fireworks and a boat to see them on with fish and chip suppers.

We loved Lulworth Castle - I don't know if they do the jousting all summer but we saw it last year and it was great. Very cheesy but very good.

Monkeyworld is lovely. There are lots of monkeys there.

Can you still visit Tyneham village if the ranges are open? It's a while since we went.

Our children found it fascinating and so did we.

And the most amazing playground at Monkeyworld. DS is 5 and we had to drag him away to see the monkeys.

The castle at the start of Portland had a really good living history thing going on when we went. They fired the canons as well.

We do love a visit to Blue Pool, very scrummy cream teas

Yes Tynham is still opn at weekends and most of the summer holidays.
