Hi All,
In the summer we are having our first family holiday abroad, we are going to France for a week. We are taking the ferry from Dover to Calais. We live in the midlands so it is going to take about 4 hours to get to Dover so was hoping to go down on the friday night (travelling by ferry on saturday) and stay somewhere fairly close to the port. We dont have much money so want somewhere very cheap. We are happy to slum it cos its just one night. Any recommendations of cheap accomodation, near the port (max 1 hour away) for 5 people (2 adults, 3 children)?

I've stayed a few times at the Holiday Inn Express (Folkestone-Channel Tunnel). It's not far from the Channel Ferry ports.

I've always found the prices there to be very reasonable.....and you get a breakfast included. You may need two rooms though, but if you go directly to their website you can check if there are any larger family rooms :)

We've stayed in Canterbury a couple of times. There's a Holiday Inn Express & Travelodge. Travelodge wasn't brilliant but it's fine if you're on a budget.

There's a premier inn just by the docks in Dover, marine court, and another one, duke of Yorkshire/Dover East about a 5/10 minute drive away. Both have restaurants attached with free kids breakfasts etc marine court is on the seafront , the other one by the castle .have a lovely holiday.

As frazz says, oh and if timings right may get free parking ( on seafront OPP hotel carpark). Have a lovely trip 😁
