Scotland - Easter

OK - who has a tried & tested place to stay in Scotland at Easter - or maybe Whit?
I'm thinking somewhere pretty, self catering, cottage (no chintz), stuff for DS (6) - complex + pool ??
Any ideas - oh wise MNetters

There's a fantastic Science Festival in Edinburgh at Easter: definitely worth visiting if you're in the vicinity.

Pitmilly might be good, though they get booked up a long way in advance. Science Festival is indeed very good if you come this way

We've only actually been there once because I never manage to get my act togther to book months in advance, the way you seem to need to. Sorry Whizz. There are self catering cottages at Crieff Hydro, and then you'd have access to the pool and so on.

Its a lovely setting, I haven't stayed in Drimsynie House Hotel , but the area is stunning but remote from other areas. Hoseasons are just an agent, and are fine, the accomodation is controled by the hotel itself.

I'd recommend Auchrannie in Arran. You could get a lodge for a week, and they also have family rooms in the spa hotel. There's loads to do in Arran for kids, and it's easy to get to. Good leisure facilities at the hotel, and lovely eating places on the island.

thanks - looks nice, but I'm not sure whether Arran (or anything involving a ferry!) might be a bit much on top of the long drive

Getting to Arran isn't to bad. The ferry from Ardrossan to Arran takes 55 mins and costs about £5 per person and £30 per car for a single. Ardrossan on the Clyde coast takes about 3.5 hours to drive to from carlisle and is about 1 hour drive southwest from Glasgow. Ferry is operated by Calmac
