Thinking of going to Somerset. Are you self catering, hotel etc?

Recommend the steam railway, think it goes from near Taunton and get off at dunster castle

  • you can stay on to minehead as well if you prefer, though we weren't huge fans of minehead

We've often stopped off en route to Cornwall for a few days near Castle Cary and had a lovely time:
Glastonbury - walk up the Tor, poke about the crystal and witchery shops, eat vegan cake
Bruton - Hauser and Wirth gallery for contemporary art and garden, poke about the antique shops, eat pizza and cake at At The Chapel
NT membership finally paid for itself - Montacute House - great play area, tyre swings from trees, Koi carp, NPG outpost, archery; Stourhead great.
Wild swimming various places, in the Frome also a couple of nice Lidos
Castle Cary bookshop on a rainy day, cake also available
Kayaking on the levels
Frome for the Independent Market

We are staying somewhere called Timberscombe, in duddings country cottages. It was a last minute thing so hope its going to be ok. Thought we would have a day in butlins as I can get half price passes. Hoping there is a zoo or something close by? We have an 11, 9 and 6yr old.
