Newquay, Cornwall recommendations.

Hello!
We are considering going to Cornwall next year, and I feel I need to start doing my research and get it booked up.
I have two DS 2 & 5 by then, they are boisterous and need to be worn out, like having dogs I imagine!
My wish list is:
Cottage/house with secure garden
3 bedrooms
High chair/ stair gates
Able to walk to beach & town centre
Obviously really clean,& well cared for.
I was thinking of Newquay as it would be a good base to explore from.
Open to suggestions including holiday parks as they do like to dance and be around other children. I didn't really want to stay in a caravan maybe a lodge.

I've only ever stayed in caravans so can't help on accommodation. Is there a reason you don't want to stay in a caravan? I prefer them to these apartment type things you can get. If you do decide a caravan is ok, Hendra is a lovely site. Been there a few times. Has an amazing swimming pool too.

So much to do in and around Newquay. It is our place of choice when staying down Cornwall.

They have an aquarium which we have never been to but supposed to be nice.
Porth beach is lovely, a favourite of ours and doesn't seem to get too busy.

We love Newquay. Definitely a child friendly place.

Don't bother with the aquarium it's expensive and only takes about 30 mins to go around.

Sorry to disagree with HarryPotter but I don't like Newquay. there are lots of other lovely places to stay in Cornwall and I was put off by the number of end of exam kids and stag/hen groups so not really my sort of place.

wherever you stay in cornwall there will be loads to do with your kids. have a look at tripadvisor and the visitcornwall website all good places for information.

we prefer SE cornwall coast because there is still loads to do but it is quieter than the north and we like to go into Devon from here as well. around Looe/Polperro is lovely proper family holiday territory. when we do go to cornwall we try and stay www.wringworthy.co.ukHERE

You will tend to find that if you stay in walking distance to the beach then it will be an individual cottage. if you want a farmstay or cottage with facilities like a pool or animals then it will be a little further out.

As for the caravan, my partner spent all his childhood on caravan holidays and he doesn't want to go on one again. I think the boys would love it, however he's paying! X

When my daughter was 2 we stayed in a house in Padstow. It was lovely and there are so many amazing beaches within walking distance. You also have a lot of restaurants and are only half an hour from Newquay by car. As we had our car we were able to drive to the Eden project and other beaches/ attractions very easily.

The centre of Newquay really isn't very nice at all. Sadly it's set itself up to target stags and hens and gets all the issues associated with that. There have also been police at the train station to confiscate alcohol from underage teens as they arrive. However the Newquay area is pretty big and 'Newquay' is often taken to include some nicer outlying villages. Places like Constantine Bay are worth looking at if you fancy a cottage, or camping. If you want a holiday camp I would choose Perranporth over Newquay; it's another good spot to base yourself to get out and about but it's much smaller and quite a bit nicer than Newquay. The beach gets ridiculously busy, but so do the Newquay beaches, though Perran doesn't have the same boozy reputation that Newquay does.

Crantock is a little village near Newquay. Lots of holiday cottages there, very pretty thatched cottage village, amazing beach have a google the beach is stunning and is a short walk from the village or you can park at th beach if you get there early enough. There is a shop, 2 pubs, tea room in the village.
10 minute drive to Newquay but a much nicer place to stay.

If you want kids disco then a holiday park like hendra may suit you better.

I personally do not like padstow it gets so packed you can't move. Pop by but don't stay there.

We've stayed a few times at The Park in Mawgan Porth (15 minutes from Newquay). It's a very nice small complex of chalet/lodges with play areas, swimming pools and a fabulous restaurant about 2 minutes from the beach. The Park and the beach is very child friendly and even in high summer is more than big enough to not feel too busy. If you're the adventurous type they also have a Yurt village or Airsteams, but we prefer the luxury lodges.

Mawgan Porth is small (a few nice restaurants, boutique and surf type shops and a pitch and putt) but from there it's easy to get to Padstow, Bedruthen and Watergate Bay.

I second The Park at Mawgan Porth which is a lovely site. The surrounding villages of Newquay are really nice and all have lovely beaches (Crantock, Holywell Bay, Watergate Bay, Porth, St Agnes) but I think what you are looking for is a cottage within walking distance of the beach and you won't get a disco there, so if you want a disco then a holiday park like Hendra at Newquay, or the Haven or Parkdean sites would be more of the thing for you.

Newquay has changed quite a bit and there has been a big clampdown on anti social behaviour which isn't tolerated at all. It had a bad reputation at one time for stag and hen parties and school leavers partying after their exams, but these days it has repositioned itself as much more family friendly.
