Heading to Wensleydale for a week at the end of July and looking for ideas for things to do with the DCs (9 and almost 2). Got some short easy walks planned, a trip to the cheese factory in Hawes and a journey on the steam train. What could we do that's totally kid orientated for a day and not too pricey?
Also looking for places to stop for a rest up the m6? Possibly with a park for a quick run around!

How far up the m6 will you go? Near junction 31 I think there is a nice little place called Brockholes with a cafe , lake and walks .

sandgrown · 19/06/2016 07:59

It is junction 31 near Preston. Brockholes is two minutes from the junction. Free but pay for parking.

AllHailTheSunDog · 19/06/2016 08:04

If it's the same Brockhole I'm thinking of, that's in the Lake District, though it is lovely.

Suki try The Forbidden Corner, Bowes museum, Middleham Castle.

AllHailTheSunDog · 19/06/2016 08:07

Maybe there's more than one Brockhole Smile

Also Richmond Castle often have activity days with knights and battles.

Sure there is an ice cream farm not too far from wensleydale. Might be brymoor?

gingerbreadmanm · 19/06/2016 08:16

I think forbidden corner is close by too although not cheap.

Sukistjames · 19/06/2016 08:30

Wow! Such quick replies! Thanks everyone.
I think we're going up to Kendal then across so will look for Brockhole.
Will definitely have a look at the ice cream farm and all the castles.
Have thought about forbidden corner but worried it's a lot of money for a short amount of time. It does look lovely though.

I've never been but every child i know who has has really loved it.

Brimham rocks is great, a national trust park. I loved it as a kid. Not sure how far it is from where you will be though.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/06/2016 08:45

Bolton Castle.

The Forbidden Corner is well worth the money but you do need to spend a good half day there, not just an hour or two.

justbogoff · 19/06/2016 08:45

Forbidden corner is well worth the money.

paddypants13 · 19/06/2016 09:40

Gingerbread man, yes it is Brymoor ice cream parlour.

If your children like nature and animals Fountain's Abbey is close by with the deer park and Brimham Rocks are beautiful.

There is also a police museum in Ripon, but I haven't been there yet.

KestralThestrel · 19/06/2016 09:53

Brymore ice cream is the best in the world!
Jervaulx abbey is nearby. Fountains Abbey further away but worth it.
Yes to Forbidden Corner, but the last time I was there you have to book.

KestralThestrel · 19/06/2016 09:53

Brymor, sorry.

lr12345 · 19/06/2016 11:41

Forbidden corner at middleman is very good but you need to book tickets

BikeRunSki · 19/06/2016 11:49

Forbidden corner needs a good 3 hrs I reckon. It does my head in though.
