Recommendation for Hotel walking distance to Theatre (Matilda) - Am I right it's Covent Garden area???

Going to see Matilda with DS on my own. Hubby has to work. Feel a bit anxious as never been on my own before. Evening show so should finish around 10.30pm. Would rather book a hotel that is walking distance from theatre - am I right in saying Covent Garden is the area I should be in???

I assume it's the Cambridge Theatre you're going to? If so then Covent Garden/Leicester Square is the right area. What sort of budget are you looking at for the hotel?

Yes that's right - no more than £150

A lot of hotels around there are ridiculously expensive but take a look at Gresham Bloomsbury hotel and LSE Northumberland House (that one is normally student accommodation but gets rented out over the holidays). Both are within a 10-15 minute walk of Covent Garden.

Perhaps the premier inn? Pretty straightforward walk from Cambridge theatre.

Look at the Covent Garden [email protected]'s actually a spit aways from Trafalgar Square and the Leicester Square tube is just up the road....sort of pod style...big double bed, shower/toilet, some rooms only have frosted windows, but you can ask if they have rooms with real windows.

The Waldorf Hilton is lovely, a short walk from the theatres and Covent Garden.

The strand palace?

We stayed at the Premier Inn County Hall, a bit further (20 mins walk) but you get the amazing views of the Thames at night.

Club quarters in Trafalgar Square? I'm there at the minute and it's a nice business hotel. No idea what the going rate is though.

Why walking distance? Hotels in that area are very expensive partly because theatre goers use them... How about a cheaper hotel elsewhere and a taxi, could end up cheaper... The hotel opposite the theatre is about twice your budget as an example... Matilda is very good !

Waterloo or Bloomsbury are definitely walking distance as long as you're not in heels. As long as it's not raining it'll be a nice walk and perfectly safe.

Don't worry about getting lost, it's not that far and if you look at the map, the Cambridge theatre is right in the centre of the seven dials, which because of its distinctive layout is easy to spot on the map even when you're walking along.

the other hub we stayed in is tower bridge...you could easily walk down to the Strand and get a 15 bus

All the theatres empty out and the restaurants fill up at that hour; Loads of people about, don't worry.

Matilda finishes earlier - around 9.30pm. It will be very busy/safe st theatre end time. I usually hop on a tube & stay at a premier in. Somewhere like Holborn.

10.30 in Covent Garden is not late at night in the normal sense - the place will be heaving!

try one of those bike rickshaws if you do not want to walk... IME they lurk around the theatres, esp for things like Matilda, and will cycle you to your hotel

the wee one will love it, I'd advise you to keep your eyes tight shut unless you have nerves of steel!

It's so easy to get around on the train he post theatre but go to Leicester Square rather than Covent Garden station.

Walking is actually probably easier less stressful and more fun at that time of night (you'll have been sitting down for three hours after all) but a brisk 20 minutes walk through safe well-populated spaces will take you to a really wide radius.

Uber. Just get a taxi to somewhere further out . Put the app on your phone before you go.
