I have been researching for hours but still don't know what to do. I will be having a few days away on my own (have done this before but because of circumstances outside my control it will be mid July before I can go, so nearly school holidays). I will be travelling by train and need good reliable transport to get around when I am there. Would like coast (or other lovely scenery), nice shops (not chain), nice walks and some places to go, stately homes etc, if the weather isn't so good (that are accessible on public transport). I also don't want anywhere really busy or tacky .... am I asking too much? I have done IOW and Yorkshire recently. Thanks :)

Falmouth. Lots of indy shops, coastal and inland walking galore, boat trips, castles, gardens, etc. Get a sleeper train from London to Truro, connect onto Falmouth. Job's a good 'un!
