Commuting from SE London to Staines

Hello lovely mums!

I wanted to ask if anyone on here commutes from SE London (Forest Hill/Sydenham area) to Staines. I'm looking online and it seems to be about and hour and a half commute time. I'm wondering if it'll be a total nightmare (i.e what happens if a train is late and you miss your connection? Does that often happen?). I'm hoping the company will allow me to do flexible hours which would make the whole thing much more bearable...!

I wouldn't contemplate it. Used to work there and the trains nearly broke me, always late, delayed, shortened. Standing in the cold and dark and wet platform is not fun when you want to be at home. Unlike central London there is no alternative route home either.

Oh and if u do travel in peak hour the commuters are fierce. Worse than central London as there's not another train in two minutes!

From Clapham Junction to Staines is straightforward, about 25 minutes. Is the company walkable from the station? And what options do you have to get to Clapham Junction?

I occasionally do a similar journey to visit a friend in S E London and that is bad enough, and I don't have to do it to time. I use SWT daily to go to work, albeit on a different route and it is usually ok but when there are problems you can be totally stranded. You might also have a lot of changes to make on your journey thereby increasing your chances of missing connections. I'm not sure how busy the trains to Staines are if you are going away from London in the morning but I wouldn't like to do that journey on a regular basis and I live a lot closer to Staines than you! Do you need to be home in time to pick up a child etc?
