Hi Mumsnet and Mumsnet members, I am confused...why is it people endlessly complain about the cost of School uniforms, it's all over the media just before kids go back to School etc, there are never ending stories all over the web on this subject matter, yet when there is actually something they can do about it, they don't?
It's simple, a petition has been set up for the uniform issue to be raised nationally not just locally as other petitions have done, yet in 3 weeks, only 129 have signed! I've read, heard and seen more than that complain very loudly about it throughout the UK, I've been slagged off for bringing it up at every opportunity, hey I'm fair game for that as I have chosen to make this thing as public as possible, but at the end of the day, this is not just for me, this is for all parents who have or will have children go to School. Unless you are lucky enough to have a reasonable School or enough money not to care of course. Comments such as "You should choose your child's School according to the uniform policy" goes against the Government guidelines on School uniforms, even the Govt. recognise that choosing a School should not come down to the uniform policy.
Everyone was furious about the Cbeebies threat and acted, wow I was impressed with the speed that thing took off, but then it had Mumsnet and other media sites behind it, well done to the fella that got that off the ground, I wish I could get people to be as passionate about saving money as saving Cbeebies, clearly not. It is a boring subject matter I will grant you and I'm not clever enough to make it fun or witty, If anyone is good at writing poems perhaps they may like to try one on this subject and send it to me (not rude though, can't publish those, unfortunately, or can I?). I'd love to be able to make any readers laugh a bit, instead of droning on, yes I know I do!! So if I get any good ones it will of course be credited to the author when published on the petition site, unless you want it anon as they say.
Mumsnet bosses this bit is for you - why do I see on your official Facebook posts debates on whether it's ok to take your kids to School in pyjamas, or to drop them off at School and run, yet you won't and don't bring up yourselves, this uniform issue which is no less an issue than the ones mentioned and I know other members have asked you to, not just me. You seem to be avoiding the issue, I have also written to you asking before, to no avail. Any chance of an explanation? You did a lovely bit on the Cbeebies issue too, it got my vote.
My spirit is flagging, it takes a lot to go on various sites every single day, to drum up interest and keep the petition going it has raised the profile a little, I'm not clever with words, I'm not witty (my sisters got the wit in the family, I got the rebellious streak!!) But please for the love of (dare I say it) God, please sign, share, tweet, post, nag any adults you know, we need 100,000 or Govt will carry on ignoring the parents of the UK. The site link will be at the bottom of this thread.
Also for anyone still reading, please can I ask that if anyone chooses to respond they keep it civil, I have noticed and it's one of the reasons I left Mumsnet some 6 years ago (when my boys were first born), that a lot of people like to be vicious on these sites. There really is no need, I don't know what they get from attacking other people and calling them names and I don't care, you can get your point across without turning into a nasty person. It's not a free for all, this is supposed to be a supportive site where people can ask things, bring up subject matter without being slated for it. Whether you agree with their view or not, otherwise it becomes like Jeremy Kyle on steroids and as about as supportive as a chocolate jock strap. :)
