Planning on going to one of the Haven sites in one of these locations.

Any recommendations either way for the general area or Haven parks?

Dc are 9 and 14

CharlesRyder · 30/06/2015 22:06

Weymouth.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 30/06/2015 22:06

Weymouth is v traditional seaside, snady beach, donkeys, fairground type stuff, reasonable shops, harbour is pretty .I like it, personally.

Don't know much about poole sorry, nor the Havens.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 30/06/2015 22:07

oh sea life centre and a viewing thingy are good in weymouth but £££
if you have a car you can get to tank museum and monkey world easily

It is lovely there Smile have a great holiday

Has the Sealife centre improved recently?

Haven't been there since the tower was built and it was very run down then

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 02/07/2015 21:37

I don't know, I haven't been for a couple of years. We used to go all the time (had annual passes) so maybe were in that zone where something's familiar and you like it so you don't really look with fresh eyes IYSWIM.

Definitely get the discount vouchers for it, it's not worth the full £££ unless you are minted!

Poole is also lovely. I preferred it to Weymouth really. Poole has a really lovely park around a lake. The sandbanks area is very nice. You can go over the ferry to Seanage which is lovely. Core Castle is stunning. It has a lively town centre. Your not farfrom Bournemoth. Shaftesbury about 45 mins away.

It has a lovely beach area. You can take boat trips to Brownsea island.

Much, much prefer Poole.

Swanage

I felt Weymouth was pretty run down.

mirandabee · 05/07/2015 08:56

Poole is a good base, as you are near Brownsea Island and Studland. Sandbanks beach is lovely, although can get a bit crowded at the height of summer. Poole Park is also good especially with children.

PlayingHouse · 05/07/2015 12:48

We stayed in Poole last year and felt there was very little around us.

Sandbanks beach is lovely but Weymouth is far better for children. There is pedalo boats, donkey rides, trampolines, punch and Judy, small funfair rides.

Hanworthy park was nice but nothing special.

We are staying in Weymouth this year. I agree the town is run day but we don't spend our holiday shopping anyway.

Trips will include;
Monkey world
Portland Bill lighthouse and castle
Corfe and the steam train from Weymouth station
Falmer Palmers
Weymouth sealife centre & tower

Possibly Northe Fort

As for havens, we stayed at Rockley last year, great site but felt quite far out from everything.

Stayed at Littlesea a few years ago, not a great pool, pretty basic - not sure if it has improved. I probably wouldn't return.

Staying at Seaview this year. It's only a 15 min walk to Weymouth beach and we can use the facilities at Weymouth Bay site which is a short walk away. Seaview was £100 cheaper for us than Weymouth Bay.

CharlesRyder · 05/07/2015 17:55

Weymouth is run down but it has a certain seaside charm. We live in ethereal Sherborne and came from Windsor so we are used to 'naice' but we love Weymouth- enough to consider getting a flat there.

However, if you want charm I would go further West. Abbotsbury or Lyme Regis (don't know if there are Havens there, but there are plenty of campsites with facilities).

shakemysilliesout · 05/07/2015 19:52

Poole but rocksley park feels very cut off. Wouldn't stay there again. Your kids should do some watersports at sandbanks.

Drivingnovice · 05/07/2015 20:02

Used to take the DC to Sea View Weymouth when they were little. Loved it. Weymouth is more of a sea side town iykwim. I've driven through Poole and looked at the posh houses, but that's about it !

jorahmormont · 05/07/2015 20:04

The Haven at Rockley Park is lovely, one of the best we've been to :) and Sandbanks is just gorgeous, love Poole itself, the area is beautiful.

Which one at Weymouth are you going to? Have been to Weymouth Bay and Seaview (a few years ago mind), they were very nice too and Weymouth is a lovely area, but Poole and Rockley Park gets my vote.

KeepPloddingOn · 05/07/2015 22:42

Booked weymouth bay in the end. Weymouth seemed to get the vote when I did it, and seaview was sold out but got a good price at weymouth bay cos it is a late deal.

I'm sure it will be fine :)
