Help! Bank hol weekend break

I've left it really late to book a bank hol weekend break for DH & I plus in-laws & 2 kids (2&4). I'm looking for somewhere under 4 hrs from South London but have spent hours contacting various places & struggling to find anywhere available that isn't super expensive - anyone got any ideas?

would suggest you go for a hotel rather than self catering because the changes to holidays in term time means that a lot of cottages now only take full week breaks over the bank holiday weekend whereas hotels will always take a short break then. its all going to be super expensive because of the school hols. that's whats happened now. prices have gone up. if your 4 yr old isn't at school and you can go the following weekend it will be masses cheaper with a lot more choice. have a look at some of the late bookings sites and see whats out there.

The weather is very unpredictable so we've just booked Butlins for a few days at least if it's raining the kids have activities indoors
