Hello everyone :)

We are launching a really interesting project, in the form of an app, that will enable people to buy, sell or barter healthy home cooked meals from/to neighbours. We are hoping it would provide a healthy alternative to high street takeaways. It's a great way to make some extra money by simply preparing an extra portion when cooking your dinner. There is an application form to complete and government food and safety regulations to follow but registration is 100% free. We will go through the details with anyone interested.

Was speaking to Dh about this and we have a few questions really.

1. how would you know that the food has been prepared in a safe and sterile kitchen ~ is every singe kitchen and cook going to be checked
2. how do you know what it is being used in the ingredients and if the food is in date
3. how would the food be transported
4. what would happen if you had food poisoning from a meal you ordered
5. if it's only one portion per cook what would happen if you wanted to feed a family of five for example, you would need to order from multiple people?
6. if you have allergies, how do you know that the food is safe for you to eat?

Thanks for the prompt reply.

1. Home kitchens will be registered with their respective local authority just like any high street takeaway is. Normally there is an initial visit to ensure kitchen is appropriate and safe.
2. Chefs will be interviewed by the organizers and an on line personalized profile and menu will be created - just as with on line food delivery portals. The menu will include information on ingredients.
3. Initially food will be made for collection only from a nearby public place.
4. There is a similar project that launched in Holland in 2013. Until this day, they have sold 70,000 meals and have not had a single case of food poisoning. There is no evidence to suggest eating a home cooked meal is more dangerous than a restaurant.
5. we have a variety of cooks interested. Some are only willing to sell a single portion a day. Others have extensive menus and will be dedicating 6 hours a day to cook!
6. As mentioned above, kitchens and cooks will have a personalized profile with a menu and description of ingredients and possible allergens.
