Where / what was your best uk family holiday?

I am getting myself SO confused about where to go!

What was your best uk holiday as a family?

There are 7 of us (aged 3-70) and I think what we are after is a traditional seaside break with lots to do. Can we pinch your holiday ideas please? Grin

We loved Court Farm near Bude in Cornwall. Summerleaze Beach is big and has a sea pool. Countryside beautiful. There are quite a lot of similar holiday cottage set ups (pool, animals, play area, games room) around Cornwall and Devon which I would like to try.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/01/2015 17:50

We loved Court Farm too Smile

Me too Middlings - despite living 25 mins from the N.Norfolk coast already!! Those cottages look lovely. :-)

SpicedGingerTea · 29/01/2015 20:44

We stayed in a luxury caravan at Kelling Heath, it was lovely. But the lodges looked amazing too. And the site was very quiet. Smile

Oh they are Normal4Norfolk and the people who run them are really nice.

You're very lucky to live up there. I'm Irish and when I hit the North Norfolk coast I start to relax and breathe in a way that I only ever used to do on the west coast of Ireland. I'm a city person at heart but I do love a bit of coastal action to recharge the batteries.

I second (third?) the Isle of Man? Quite unspoiled, and something for everyone. If you want reasonably nice weather then the Channel Islands might be an option.

North Norfolk is fantastic. In fact we came on holiday here from London and moved up. Also we now have 3 small holiday cottages next to our house. Low key, like going back to the 50s - no motorways so old fashioned pace of life but absolutely TONS to do. Loads of space on the beaches, good chance of sunshine (east coast) and can mix wild walks (Holkham beach is stunning) with buckets and spades & fish and chips. We stayed in Parva cottage in Wiveton twice before deciding to leave London (which I still miss but the children can run wild here so…) Also check out barnhouseholidays.com - which is our one so not sure if I'm supposed to say that! We have a Facebook page too with tips about stuff to do so even if you camp or stay somewhere else it might be useful. Our friends in the village have 3 bell tents on a tiny site with fairy lights etc too, if a bit of homespun glamping is more your thing. Aside from that - have had fantastic holidays on the west coast of Scotland - love that place!! And Wales - near Tenby. Whitby in Yorkshire is fantastic too.

holmessweetholmes Tynemouth beach is beautiful. Like a proper English seaside postcard. We spent hours there just playing on the sand. We actually didn't do much on our holidays last year apart from go to various swings and outdoor water park things. It was bliss.

KnittedJimmyChoos · 30/01/2015 11:59

But most of all I can't believe no one's mentioned Lyme Regis - go for Lifeboat week or the Carnival and there is so much going on in town (on top of the usual fossil hunting, aquarium, beaches etc.) that you won't need to move your car once in the whole week .

I adore all that part of uk, beer branscome, lyme regis, charmouth.....

notnaice · 30/01/2015 15:21

Been to lots of nice places but my vote is for the Isle of Wight. Tons of things to do. Beautiful beaches. Not too overcrowded and easy to get all over the island.

wigglybeezer · 30/01/2015 15:41

i found Norfolk a bit dull and flat (and rather posh!), preferred Pembrokeshire and so did the children. It would depend on the ages of the children though.

I would like to go back to cornwall and Pembrokeshire but wouldn't bother with Norfolk but I am fixated on the West highlands at the moment and am going back to Arisaig for the third year in a row.

I also second recommendations for Aviemore, the pine forests are like nowhere else in Britain and red squirrels everywhere!

Wiggly err.... rude! Shock

Sorry to hijack the threa but...
We are looking to go away for a short break in June and have decided on Norfolk.
We've heard it's lovely though have never been so would like some advice / recommendations please.
There will be me, DH, DS who will be 2.9 & DD who will be 8 months.
Probably for a 4 or 5 nights stay.
Ideally we'd like to go self-catering, possibly staying in our own cottage / holiday let.
Near-ish to the coast but also somewhere with lots of activities for the kids, ie. zoo, park, soft play, child-friendly museum, etc.
I'vealso heard there's a Dinosaur Adventure Park which DS would love so if we could incorporate that, I think it'd be appreciated!
Any ideas of where we could stay (in terms of area as well as recommended accommodation) and things to see or do would be gratefully received, thank you!

Morning all

We've had requests to move this out of Chat so that it doesn't go pffffft, so here you are in UK Travel - if anyone wants posts deleted, just hit the report button and let us know.

Thanks

North Norfolk Coast, South Hams in Devon, Dorset Coast, Pembrokeshire Coast

ineedaholidaynow · 23/02/2015 21:12

As a child we had many happy holidays on the Scilly Isles. Went back when DS was about 2. Still loved it.

We now live in Devon so can enjoy Devon's beaches without having to go on holiday ??

The best place by far is the beautiful Northumberland coast. Since our son was born 18 years ago we firstly bought a caravan near Bamburgh and enjoyed many summers touring the coast. We now run our own holiday cottage business in Seahouses to help other families enjoy the delights of Northumberland. Check out facebook Northumberland Holiday Cottages (Travel Agency) or www.holidaycottagenorthumberland.net.

Purbecks, Around Dartmouth and Antrim Coast are all stand outs for me.
