I'm hoping to attend a conference in Dumbarton, I'll be using public transport. Where should I stay? I've not been up that for years and my geography is a little hazy.

I'll travel up the day before and back the afternoon that it finishes. I will be travelling from manchester.

Thanks.

No, Mr Arnold. Mr G has only just retired in the last few years, believe it or not. He looked ready for retirement in 1997.

His bloody cat o nine tails hanging at the side!

He once slammed it on my desk and proclaimed "In years gone by child, YOU would have had this stinging your hand not placed upon your desk", I replied that he'd have a stingey arsehole if he threatened me again and got suspended for a week followed by a stint in the E room for good measure :o Blush

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 20:38

1997... Is that when you started?

I was '98 but DH was 97.

KatoPotato · 20/01/2015 20:39

Squtt!! You're a hero!!!

Appin · 20/01/2015 20:39

No, 94. Left in 99.

Jings, I'm old.

Appin · 20/01/2015 20:41

Mr G has children who are only teenagers now. My head just can't compute that fact at all.

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 20:42

So you'd have been one of the sensible prefects when I started? :o

NATO I thought I was at the time, turns out I was just another wee arsewipe that the poor bugger had the misfortune to teach. No wonder he hated me!!

KatoPotato · 20/01/2015 20:43

Appin I started in 94? Or 93? I can't remember?

Appin · 20/01/2015 20:43

Possibly :)

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 20:43

*Kato

Appin that is both worrying and sickening, that old man must've been having sex whilst being my teacher...

KatoPotato · 20/01/2015 20:43

No wait, I left in 97!

Appin · 20/01/2015 20:44

Ooh, now I am intrigued.

Appin · 20/01/2015 20:44

I've probably already given away far too much info on this thread.

KatoPotato · 20/01/2015 20:45

He had a functioning relationship? I assumed he climbed into his ford Capri and powered down at night!

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 20:45

Haha me too.

A name change is in order afterwards lol

Appin · 20/01/2015 20:46

I too was pretty gobsmacked when I heard about it. Crazy.

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 20:48

Saying that I remember my timid wee music teacher having a baby with my arrogant prick of a science teacher and was like WTF?!

KatoPotato · 20/01/2015 20:53

Who? Not Mrs Rae?

Appin, do you remember the music dept got set on fire?

Actually it's only just dawned on me that the 'extension' was not an extension at all, it was a standalone structure? I never questioned it - but I did enjoy not adhering to the one way system!

Appin · 20/01/2015 20:57

Nope, I don't remember that at all.

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 20:59

No not Mrs Rae, I went out with her son for a week, she was not amused :o

Ms Moreland (Moreland?) she had a very odd voice. Yup the extension was just.. Well another building :o

MWestie · 20/01/2015 21:08

I'm older that you all but am loving this trip down the Academy memory lane Smile

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 21:15

You too Westie? :o

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/01/2015 21:17

Been reading through, we visit the area every year to see relatives but don't stay in Dumbarton itself. However the DCs insist on a visit to Dumbarton Castle every single year, we must know every nook and cranny of it and love the views from the top.

MWestie · 20/01/2015 21:23

Yep, left the Academy in 1990. Wow, that's a shocker. Some of the teachers were obviously diehards though as I recognise lots of names here from my time.

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 21:36

You'd have been there at the same time as my Aunt Westie, she knew lots of my teachers as did my mum :o
